General Information
The NSCC/NLCC excels at instilling courage, patriotism, self-reliance, accounability, pride, seamanship, and other kindred virtues within cadets. The NSCC strives to provide a broad educational base to help develop each cadet into a stronger person. To this end, a combination of hands on training and classroom lecture is used to present the materials. Civilians and military personnel present the full range of civilian and military options available to them, and to help explain youth's responsible role in society. Personal improvement classes, such as Physical Training, Drug and Alcohol Awareness, Sexual Harassment Awareness, and Study Skills classes, are offered by most units on a regular basis.
Hands-on training for Sea Cadets is authorized on board ships and shore activites of the Navy and Coast Guard. Training is conducted by military personnel and by qualified NSCC officers and instructors. Examples of available NSCC training include: Recruit Training, Shipboard Training, SEAL Training, Medical Training, Aviation Ground School and Flight Training, Navy Choir and Band Training, Seabee Training, Submarine School, and Foreign Exchange programs to such locations as Bermuda, Belgium, Canada, Great Britain, the Netherlands, and South Africa.
There are over 250 units spread throughout the United States. Units train on Navy or Coast Guard Bases, Reserve Centers, or even civilian facilities. Chances are, a unit is available near you. Consult the unit list or write a letter to NSCC National Headquarters. Positions are available for cadets and adult staff.
