Y2K GSXR 750
Vs.
HONDA'S 900 RR
Is the '00 GSXR 750 all that it is supposed to be?  Or, is it all just hype from Suzuki?  It's not near as comfortable as the Honda F4, it's not as smooth as a 'Busa, but get it out on a cool Fall morning on a back canyon road and you won't care about any of that.  All you will care about is how fast you can get through the twisties.
Last Sunday, some friends and I went out from a casual ride to a new canyon.  I on my Gixxer and they on their Katana's.  We met an unknown rider of a
Honda 900RR.  He waited for us at the entrance and turned a leisurely ride through the canyon into a full-out race through the twisties.  With speed limit signs of 25 and 30, we rarely saw speeds under 50 to 70.  It had started out as fun and had quickly become personal.  Not bike vs. bike but me against him, only later to find out he has had his 900RR for years and me with my Gixxer for only 2 months.  Through the twisties we went.  He led because the road was famaliar to him and it being my first time through.  Though I could not pass him, he never for a second forgot I was there, because had he stopped the two bikes would have become one.
After we left the canyon, it was on to the straight-away.  After cuising along at 70 MPH for a while, he got bored and signed to slow me down to 30.  We both knew what was coming, 900cc's vs.
750 cc's.  As he went for his clutch to drop gears so did I.  Dropping the clutch and hammering the throttle we were off.  The only problem was my Gixxer's front wheel was 3 feet off the ground!!!  So I immediately let off,let the front wheel fall, leaned forward and tried it again.
This time I was successful.  The 900RR was right behind, but slowly losing ground.  After what seemed like an eternity of going through several gears, the race was over.  The 900RR could not keep up, though he was never out of my sight.

So is the '00 GSXR everthing it is supposed to be?  I think it is.  Is it the best Super-Sport available, I don't know.  I do know the only limits the bike seems to have is the rider, which was evident in the canyon.  The rider of the 900 was an excellent rider.  You either have to be an excellent rider or have testes the size of grapefruits to ride like he did.  His bike is a little older with probably a little less horse-power and a little more weight.  That would certainly explain why we were together in the twisties and not on the straight away.  Twisties is 75% rider and 25% bike.  You can have the best bike there is, but if you can't ride it what does it matter!!!  I've seen written before and agree, 'The Y2K GSXR is a 750 that worries Liter bikes'.

If you were wondering, we didn't forget about our friend on his Katana.  The 900RR rider and I stopped at the gas station at the end of the road to talk and wait a few minutes for Billy.  Billy, the Katana rider, said he accomplished what he set out to. To have a nice leisurely ride through the canyon.
