The new symbols for Conrail have been converted to Norfolk Southern's new style of symbols. These new symbols utilize two numeric characters and an alpha character train section. The first two numeric characters fall into the character sets as described above. For example, the 41A (ALBU) train would actually fall into the 410-series in the above table. The final alpha character is used to identify the segment of that particular train number.
Other alpha-codes are used to distinguish extra sections of trains. These codes are described on a separate page
