Commander's SITREP
A COMMANDER WILL COMMAND.
Companions of the Las Vegas Chapter, it seems that we have expereinced a break in communication. As Veteran's Day came and went I thought about the many members of this chapter that I have had the pleasure of meeting and hearing their stories of service. It didn't take long to realize how much time had passed since we last met. I apologize for that break in communication and hope that you won't hold it against me as I attempt to reestablish contact. Like many of you who were commander's before, life happened.

During our communication break, I was only able to present one medal in person, but all requested awards from schools were honored. This was an area that I could've used some help with. For this year it is my hope that we, as a chapter, will be able to send a representative to present every medal requested. In an attempt to accommodate everyone's schedule, I am going to hold an annual meeting and follow up with committees offline. Our first such meeting will be held Sunday, 3 February 2008. I hope you will join me and show your support to the youth of our community and the leaders of tomorrow.

I also wanted to take a moment to thank everyone for their generous contributions this past year. It really helped to sustain our ability to present awards to the many deserving youth in our area. Again, thank you for your support!

As we know November is a special month for many reasons. A couple that comes to mind is Veterans Day and Thanksgiving. Not only are we thankful for everything we have in our lives, families and friends, but we are thankful for the great service of our veterans past and present. This year I had the privilege of speaking at my daughters' school. I wore my class "A's" and brought various photos of my experiences during my years of service. The children were attentive and asked many intelligent questions. Of course the greatest moment was seeing the pride in my daughters' eyes as I spoke before their class and the hugs I received from them as it was time to depart the school. If you ever have the opportunity to do this I would highly recommend it, you will make an impact on the minds of our youth and it will make your day! With that said, my family and I are proud of you for your service to this great country. Take care and thank you for your continued service.

Carpe Diem!

MAJ David M.  Sellen
