SPECIAL THINGS TO CONSIDER
MEDICATION: Should be turned over to the Scoutmaster before we board the bus
PHYSICAL EXAMINATIONS: Camp requires a physical examination within the last 12 months. We must use the Universal Boyscout Medical Form (available from the Scoutmaster). This medical form is also the permission slip to attend camp. Please be sure a parent signs this form. This must be turned over to the scoutmaster before we board the bus. Adults attending camp overnight must have a completed medical form.
SPENDING MONEY: Each boy needs spending money. ?? How Much ?? This is up to the individual family. We recommend a minimum of $25.00. However Scouts taking Basketry merit bade (first year scouts mostly) should consider $30.00. We encourage each scout to make a small donation to the religion of his choice. (Catholic, Protestant, or Jewish)
SPECIAL NOTE: As in the past we will continue our voluntary system of collecting spending money before we board the bus. Each scout will have his own envelope. This money will be held in a secure area under the control of the adults. The boy's money will be available to him on demand during the week. All unspent monies will be returned to th escout the Sunday morning we return. The adults can not be responsible for any monies lost which are not under their control. Each year sombody loses money, With this system we can keep th elosses to a minimum. Please discuss this with your son and instruct him as you see fit. SPENDING MONEY SHOULD BE IN THE FORM OF SMALL BILLS (NOT LARGER THEN $5.00)
* NO CHECKS PLEASE --- THERE ARE NO BANKS IN THE WOODS *
Scouts should hold some money for use on the ferry (game room, food, soda ..etc)
SWIMMING MERIT BADGE & LIFESAVING MERIT BADGE: Thoes scouts taking these merit badges should bring a BUTTON DOWN LONG SLEEVE SHIRT (not a pull over) and LONG PANTS. These scouts will use these to practice an "accidental fall-in) drill. These items will get wet.
SNORKELING: If your son plans to take the snorkeling Course, and has his own equipment, he should bring it with him. Very often the class is limited by equipment availibity (especially during week seven) This equipment can be left in th ecare of the adults when not in use. This is especially true for wxpensive equipment.
WILDERNESS SURVIVAL: Those boys taking wilderness survival should prepare a personal survival kit. This should include a: Personal First Aid Kit, Waterproof Matches, and a Small Case Or Tin To Contain A Survival Kit. See the scout hand book or the Wilderness Survival Merit Badge Book for details. This is something they can prepare at home and save valuable time at camp.
ARTICALS OF VALUE: Any articals of value, or which may be considered fragile and which may get damaged in the trailer may be given to the scoutmaster for safe keeping and/or transportation. These articals will be kept under the control of adults and/or placed in the tow vehicle.
TROOP PICTURES: Each year an 8 x10 Troop picture is taken by a professional photographer at camp. The photo is available the Sunday we return. Parents have commented this is nice memorabilia: Its fun to watch the boys grow. The cost is $6.50. Pictures are optional but we have to know in advance.
BE PREPARED: Boys may prepare requirements for merit badges they plan on earning prior to going to summer camp. This is especiall true for essays which may be required for a merit badge. By doing this at home, during the weeks before camp, a boy may maximize his time at camp spending more on activities which are available only at camp. Parents, please encourage your soon to spend a set amount of time each week to work on these requirements.
