Cliff Horn, another
H.S. cohort, from Minneapolis, writes a LOT! - He was in
on the "Corkys" mystery. In fact, he
& his sister have a real brain teaser going - trying
to name all the businesss on Tower Ave. from
Belknap to Broadway on the East & West Sides of the
street during our 1949-53 H.S.. years. I wont
attempt that without a city directory, which to date I
havent had time to check. Cliffs communiqus
are legendary - Several H.S.names mentioned: Marilyn
Knutson, Nancy Christianson, & Shirley (Wick), of
course...among others. Odd how much more we have in
common in our Golden Years - both he & I had to check
our yearbooks to see who we were! Didnt know each
other from Adam in the 50s!... My communiqus
with Mike Savage, were mostly "book
business" - though he does check in on other matters
from time to time. Mike went off to Mexico for a week in
Jan. on a "biking" tour of the northern
wilderness areas of our Southern neighbor. Am happy he
got back okay!
Lance Richardson, Larry, LeAnn Verkeyn & Laurie
Verkeyn ONeil keep regular contact with me
through the Verkeyn Chat Room every Sunday a.m.
Great fun...and great friends. I am still flabbergasted
by their fantastic gifts - a copy of Edvard Munchs
"The Scream," that has hung in my living room
since Christmas with matching coffee mug! LOVE it! (webmaster note: see images on page 7)
We
communicate intermittently in between of course, esp.
since Larry is my WebMaster & has to guide me along
step by step. They were all rocks during my writing
stretch with "Croc..." - reading &
encouraging me along.... Thanks again!...
Their mom, Barb Johnson Verkeyn Turner, is a
ROCK, too! - She is #2 all time regular e-mailer, nudged
out by a fraction of an inch by Bonnie. All three of us
"yak-attacking" back & forth. Barbs
mom Bernice Johnson, even sent an animated
Christmas card this year! They have a computer set up at
the nursing home in Omaha. Barb & I chatted about
tons of things like - old friends/classmates, our days in
South Superior, our aggravations at receiving so many
JOKES via e-mail, Junk mail; care giving, her fam; my
fam; work (shes still at it); New Years
Resolution (Throw away 10 things a day!); & men! with
a capital M. ahahaaa.... Great fun, in any case.
Barbs the winner in book (mine) purchases - bought
SEVEN! Kiss kiss!

Bank Cohort Helen Pappas
sends lots of blue/funny jokes, though DID manage to add
some news once. She had LASIK done on her eyes - no more
contact lenses! No more near-sightedness. A Miracle! Another
Bank Cohort - Dan Hering! checked in - a new
cyber-er (for me). Welcome aboard, old buddy! - Who by
the by, was once my boss! - Remember our yelling
sessions??? ahaha. He mentioned in passing that his
annual Christmas card from the Harold Harvey family,
only had Vestas & Jennefers names on
it...No Harold!? Dan tried calling, but the phone was
disconnected. Anyone out there want to take on that
mystery? Dan got word of the BP from Frank & Toni
Romain, (Frank the x-banker), who keep in touch,
though lately only with odd-ball humor???? hmmm - MUST
have some other news for me???
Jack Schreyer, a former Superiorite in CA now,
wrote - hes a friend of Cliff Horn & was
inquiring about book publishing....
Amy Jenkins & I emailed each other around
Christmas about her plans to compile a little "Iowa
City Workshop 99, cohorts newsletter" - Amy
was off to Cancun for Christmas. Last week I got her
communiqu - with updates on most all of the group, plus
samples of some of their work. Great! Hope she can
continue updating us....
Louise Pugh, one of my Fergus Falls teachers
checked in briefly, as they were in the middle of
exams...
Carol Gruber, Rochester, MN must be mighty busy
too, sends cute jokes, but NO NEWS!? boo hoo....
Joe Archie, Addison IL recently sent a great
"Genealogy Humor" piece, which I sent on to
Louise (thats her bailiwick)....
John Johnson, a Sons of Norway
"brother," (Leif Erickson Lodge in Chgo) has
taken up the book cause ("Croc..) - listing me on
his Sons Of Norway District 5 website, his Life With
Leif newsletter. AND did a review of the book on amazon.
com. Whataguy! Tusen takk for alt! John...
