In November 1928 she went back to her builders for a refit. The added a new 60 m / 195 ft lower section to the forepart. It was built in to counteract the strong tendency to pitch heavily. In May 1929 her passenger accommodation was changed to 290-Cabin Class, 431-Tourist Class, 698-3rd Class. In December 1934 she was laid up on the Clyde. Then in September 1935 she was put in service as a troop transport. On July 10, 1936 she was placed back on the Glasgow to New York service again. Once again, in January 1941, she entered service as troop transport. In 1945 she was laid up at the end of the war. In 1947 the Cameronia entered service in the spring as troop transport to Palestine. In July 1948 she was overhauled and refitted as an emigrant ship by Barclay, Curle & Co. Her passenger accommodation was then listed at 1,266 in one class with a tonnage of 16,584 GRT. On November 1, 1948 she made her first voyage from Glasgow to Sydney. In January 1953 the Cameronia was sold to Ministry of Transport as troop transport and renamed Empire Clyde. She was managed by Anchor Line. In September 1957 she was sold to J.
