Another side shot of the King Tiger, this one capturing the sweeping curves of the Porsche turret. This shot really does convey the danger of the shot trap created by the curving front plate of the turret. The early model Panthers also suffered from this weakness, Allied tank crews desperately trying to aim for this spot to deflect thier shells down into the thinner upper armor over the drivers head.In the King Tiger this was rectified by the switch to the Henschel turret for the main production run, In the Panther, it was solved by modifying the gun mantlet with a lip to deflect shells safely ( Panther G model ).
