This photo nicely shows off the thick, angled walls of the superstructure. On top of the strongly  armored roof, you can see the gunners sliding periscope mount ( the semi circular plate at the front) behind that, the open commanders cupola ( this was upgraded from the Ferdinand to provide better all round viewing after the Kursk debacle ). Behind the cupola, you can see the armored ventilator housing and an auxilliary hatch. This shot also demonstrates the immense 200mm armor thickness of the forward superstructure ( you can see the line of the armor plate ) and the juncture of the L71 cannon wiith its small shield protecting the ball mount. Beneath this, you can see the large engine grilles covering the main engine compartment and its twin Maybach HL 120`s. On the side of the superstructure you can see a coiled tow rope, a rather forlorn additon as the great weight of the Elefant made towing problematical at best.
