| This view is taken from the starboard rear of the machine and gives a nice impression of the awesome size of the beast. Along the running board to the fore can be seen a stowage pannier and beneath that, a tube which held the gun cleaning rods for the main armament. I had to fabricate this from a piece of sprue as this detail was not supplied with the kit, however, my Eduard etched brass set provided me with mounts to sit the tube upon so fabrication was very simple ( im not the worlds greatest scratch builder! ). To the rear of the vehicle can be seen a towing loop, sat beneath the air vent. The rear hatch can also be seen clearly, the round object in the centre of the superstructure. One of the two towing hawsers are visible on the flank and above that, the open commanders cupola. The Elefant did have a few chassis converted to the recovery or Berge roll but the machine still suffered the problems of all of the Tiger family, that being it was so heavy it was very difficult to remove from the battlefield for repair, so many were lost to mechanical attrition rather than enemy action. |
