| This view of the Elefant, taken from the forward starboard side again conveys the massive size of the machine. The Porsche running gear can be seen clearly here, along with the gun cleaning rod storage tube and equipment pannier. At the front of the vehicle, you can see the two massively thick armor plates that were bolted onto the superstructure to give the Elefant an almost invulnerable forward protection, armor thickness being 200mm !!!!!! Beneath the mighty L71 cannon, you can see the gun lock, required to keep the weapon stable during transit. Additional armor in the form of spare tracks has been fitted to the front superstructure, a common practice amongst most armored units. Finally you can see the large antenna fitted to the vehicle just above the headlamp. |
