| Another imposing view of the Elefant clearly demonstrating its bulky hulking form, virtually invulnerable to the weapons of the day from this arc. From front to back, the armor is uniformaly 200 mm thick, the tank living up to its namesakes thick hide. You can clearly see the mighty L71 88mm cannon leading back to the gun shield at its root. Heavy duty towing eyes can be seen at the front, the machine gun and jack just behind these. You can also see the tandem lights of the vehicle, an unusual feature as most German afvs of this period only had one. Broad battle tracks complete this picture, but this did not stop the Elefant easily miring because of the vehicles great weight ( 65 tons!!!). |
