Club History
Although St.Andrews F.C haven't been existing for a long time, they still have an interesting history.
The first foundation date of the club dates back to 1982. That was the first year in which Luxol St.Andrews F.C participated in the M.F.A leagues. However the same team used to participate before in the S.S.A (Sliema Sports Association). The club's first match was against Pieta in the 3rd Division league, a match which we won 1-0 ( the starting line-up of that match will be available next week). The club remained in the 3rd Division for 7 years although at times they challegened for promotion. In 1988-99 the club won promotion from the 3rd Division to the 2nd Division. The club's top scorer that season was John Stivala, who still forms part of the present squad. The following season, the club won promotion again from the 2nd Division to the 1st Division and the same thing was done the following season. Therefore, Luxol St.Andrews F.C made history by obtaining three consecutive promotion and finishing in the Premier League in just 3 years. This record was then equalled by Xghajra Tornadoes but we will still be the first team to do this. In the first year in the Premier League, the team faired good by holding their Premier status after beating Zurrieq in a relagtion decider. The following year, Luxol St.Andrews F.C were the biggest surprise of the season. They finished 4th in league and they were the only team who Floriana F.C (league Champions that season) didn't manage to beat. Infact, in the first round we drew 2-2 and in the second round we beat them 2-1. In that season we also obtained the first win against Sliema F.C , in the second round, when we beat them 2-1. It was a memorable season and we surely were the positive surprise of the year. However in the following year, things were totally different. We just managed to avoid relegation by obtaining the 7th place in the standings. That year was also the last year of Luxol St.Andrews F.C in the Premier League. In my opinion it was a very controversial decision when the comittee decided to amalgamate with B'Kara F.C cause we had financial problems. Most of our players joined other clubs and in B'Kara Luxol was left nothing of Luxol F.C except the name. Becuase of this, St.Andrews F.C were relegated to the 3rd Division and so the club had to start its way back from there. The team was now again full of youngsters, most of them were still U/21. It was a very hard time but under the guidance of Jimmy Briffa our team was back on its feet. In the first year in the third division our team finished in the 6th position. Two years later the club won its first promotion again and once again we were promoted in our first year in the 2nd Division. Last year our club managed to remain in the First Division and we now have a team capable to beat anyone in the First Division. However, we shall not hurry now cause of our sour experience and we will get promoted when we think it's time to do so and when our team will be capable to remain in the Premier League once we are there.

The only players who played for Luxol F.C in the Premier and returned back to St.Andrews F.C are Peter Gatt, John Stivala, Jeffrey Farrugia and last year Alex Busutill returned on a one-year loan.
