There are three main responsible authorities for the monitoring, sampling and testing of imports depending on the type of product
Organisation for Import and Export Control:
Mainly responsible for controlling the qualtiy of imported food products, controlling certificates and checks imports if they are in compliance with Egyptian labelling, packaging, and product standards.
Ministry of Health:
is responsible for the national food safety, and ensures that domestic and imported foods are fit for human consumption. Chemical and biological tests are undertaken by the Central Laboratory within the Ministry of Health.
Ministry of Agriculture:
The Plant Protection and Quarantine�� is involved with imports and exports. It inspects and monitors every consignment of the following commodities: raw grains, fruits, vegetables, seeds horticultural products. It is also responsible to control phytosanitary certificates. The Veterinary Service under the Ministry of Agriculture is responsible for meat, fish and dairy products. The Veterinary Service maintains several laboratories in Cairo and at the ports. Inspection are undertaken on board.
