Utilisation of agricultural land

Land use systems are well adapated to the regional geographic differences.

Since 1976 the utilised agricultural area has decreased, especially for permanent crops, including the area of olive trees and vineyards. In the future Cyprus has a comparative adavantage in growing vegetables out of the main season in most European countries. Out of sesaon vegetables have to be cultitivated in greenhouses and tunnels, and are highly capital intensive. The most profitable vegetables are tomatoes, cucumbers, beens, egg plants, pepers, and strawberries. dam.gif (1619558 bytes)
