Two young men arrives at the Narita Airport.
They seem to be brothers. Although they have Japanese passports,
the immigration officers would not let them in and they escape.
They manage to hide somewhere, but the younger one has got injured seriously and can't move.
The older one (Takeshi Kaneshiro) slashes the neck of his younger brother,
then cuts a lock of hair with tears on his eyes and leaves....
Rieru Mashiro (Miho Nakayama) is a 29-year old system engineer of a leading software company.
She is very pretty and has a superb skill, and has become one of the most reliable staff in her section.
But behind her cheerful attitude, her private life has not been so good.
Her parents got devorced while ago due to the infidelity of her father,
then the exhausted mother died 7 years ago.
Rieru raised her 7-year younger sister Maria (Yukie Nakama),
who has been leading a life of dissipation with her boyfriend.
New Year's Eve in 1999. When Rieru is working overtime in order to deal with the Y2K problems,
she is called up by the Department of Foreign Affairs.
She goes to work there. In the same office, there is a man whose name is Nogami.
He is the older one at the airport. Nogami is very interested.
In Rieru's password to enter into the computer of the Department of Foreign Affairs.
He is actually a secret agent of an Asian country whi has been assigned to do some work in Japan.
He has obtained an identification as Nogami.
Riery is interested in Nogami when he manages to go out the elevator
where both of them are trapped at the moment of New Year.
And she finds a lock of hair when he leaves.
A few days later, Nogami savfes her from a man, which is in fact planned by Nogami himself.
He tales her toa restaurant and when she leaves the table for a second,
he steals her ID card and the password of the Department of Foreign Affairs.
Rieru doesn't know anything about it and she finds herself
attracted to this man who seems to be very pure.
As the story develops, we learn the assignment of Nogami,
which is to assassinate a chemist of his own country who has been protected by Japanese government.
It is supposed to be an easy task for Nogami, but there is a reason he can't do it quickly.
He also struggles between his mission and love for Rieru. It seems to be no way out....
