To The Traveling Hairdresser

About "The Traveling Hairdresser"

So you want to know more about me??  I am flattered!  The way The Traveling Hairdresser started was quite accidental.  While managing a salon in 1989 I was flooded w/ requests for in-home hair care visits from my existing clients.  My first group of clients were basically non-drivers, and persons confined to the home for a various array of reasons.  However, I found the biggest need for my services at the time were those who were medically restricted to their home (friends/clients diagnosed w/ MS, Polio, Cancer, Muscular Dystrophy, etc.).  I found that I absolutely love assisting this community of people..  Some people would ask me "if these people don't go out, why do they care what their hair looks like?"   As sad as it is for me to write this, I must exclaim; Ignorance is certainly bliss!!...  My response to this extremely heartless question was, "That regardless of a persons emotional/physical disability they still have pride and I build their morale each and every time that I visit them."  Not only do they benefit from my service, but I too walked out of their home with a bit more wisdom from their life experiences and hardships (for this I get paid??!!).  I have never once left a client's home without walking away with  a piece of "them", be it advice/philosophy/spirit/wisdom in which they were kind enough to share with me.

Well here I am sitting smack in the middle of 2002,  living in "THE BURBS" where the need for in home hair care services is phenomenal.  I found this to be true for a couple of reasons.  Firstly, public transportation is nothing like it is in Bklyn./Queens/Manhattan (where I lived for a bit).  So for those who can get out, yet do not drive they are still "stranded" in a sense.  Secondly, I have found that in the case of my home-bound clients that not only does it give them great pride to look their best, but the one on one attention and "expected company" of my visits uplifts their spirit.
