Teenager, Lola Cep (Lindsay Lohan) dreams of being an actress. She already has the ego and the imagination and she refuses to be called by her real although certainly less theatrical - name, Mary.

Through her imagination and her tendency to sometimes embellish the truth, Lola gives a much more dramatic scenario to her life than it really has and when her mother, Karen (Glenne Headly) decides to move the family from New York to New Jersey, Lolas farewell to her beloved city and most especially Broadway, gets her an A for over-acting. Shes perfect for her chosen career.

At her new school, Lola, who is not used to playing second fiddle to anyone, finds that Carla (Megan Fox), the haughty queen bee on campus, feels the same way and the two become instant enemies. Rather than trying to be part of Carlas entourage, Lola befriends the timid Ella (Alison Pill) because she is a fan of Lolas all-time favourite group, Sidarthur. Lola is especially smitten by band member, Stu Wolff (Adam Garcia) who, she insists, writes the best poetry since Shakespeare.

She scores a point over Carla when she wins the lead role in their oddball teacher, Miss Baggolis (Carol Kane) updated version of Pygmalion to be called (no, not My Fair Lady) Eliza Rocks! Carla seethes.

Its a crushing blow for Lola and Ella when they hear that Sidarthur is breaking up, and their agony is compounded when Carla scores tickets to their farewell concert and party through her father who is the groups lawyer. At the game of one-upmanship however, Lola is expert and, despite setbacks including nearly losing her new best friend because of a lie - some unexpected circumstances bring Lola face to face with her idol and make her the centre of attention at the big party.

But will her victory over Carla be quite what she expected or will a few past fibs finally catch up with her?

Of late, there have been a number of movie characters whose memory has been playing tricks on them. Guy Pearce was a prime case in question in the riddle that was Memento and Ben Affleck voluntarily has slabs of his past erased in the new thriller, Paycheck. There are others, but they seem to have escaped my mind at the moment.

50 First Dates finds humour and a kind of sweet romanticism in what is normally a very serious condition. Its an Adam Sandler movie, reuniting him with his Wedding Singer co-star, Drew Barrymore and, as in that film, this is Sandler revealing his warmer, less strident side. He plays Henry Roth, a veterinarian in Hawaii where, when not tending to the ills of his marine patients, he takes care of the more amorous needs of the female tourists. Henry is not a guy with commitment in mind until he meets Lucy Whitmore (Barrymore) and falls head over heels in love for the first time.

The trouble is, when Henry sees Lucy the next day she doesnt know who he is. He discovers that she suffers from a rare brain disorder caused by a car accident a year previously and, each night as she goes to sleep, she forgets everything that happened the day before. For Lucy, each waking day is the same one on which the accident occurred and she relives it every 24 hours (much like Bill Murray in Groundhog Day). Helping her through these constant re-runs are her father, Marlin and her younger, steroid-addicted brother, Doug nicely played by Blake Clark and a funny Sean Astin, respectively. For Lucys sake, Marlin and Doug watch The Sixth Sense day after day, always pretending that the ending is a big surprise, and they do everything they can to make Lucy believe she is living the same day for the first time. They send Henry packing at first, but his persistence pays off and he comes up with a plan to try to make Lucys days better and to make her fall in love with him over and over again.

There is a scene in which Lucys doctor (Dan Aykroyd) makes it clear that she is never going to get any better and it is interesting to see just how the filmmakers resolve the Henry/Lucy relationship. Happily, their solution is a very satisfying one.

Sandler and Barrymore are well matched again and also adding to the enjoyment are Rob Schneider as Henrys flaky pal, Ula, Lusia Strus as his sexually ambiguous assistant, Alexa and Amy Hill and Pomaikai Brown as Sue and Nick who work at the diner where Henry first meets Lucy.

Definitely a date worth keeping.

"Honey Daniels (Jessica Alba) is a girl who has all the right moves, but the only people who ever see what she can do with them are the regulars who watch her strut her stuff at the bar where she works at night with her best friend and biggest fan, Gina (Joy Bryant) and the kids she teaches in her hip-hop classes by day.

When a top music video director, Michael Ellis (David Moscow) catches a glimpse of her in action, he hires her to be a back-up dancer for his latest clip and its not long before Honey is choreographing his videos and mingling with some of the hottest talent in town.

Honeys career is on the rise and getting better every day. Shes attracted the attention of a good looking barber called Chaz (Mekhi Phifer) and a group of street kids who now see her as cool notably the youngest of them, the lonely Raymond (Zachary Isaiah Williams). Shes even won over the hard-earned respect of Raymonds older brother, Benny (Lil Romeo) whos been mixing with the wrong crowd. Benny begins to take an interest in the hip-hop classes especially when Honey convinces Michael to let some of her kids take part in his next video. Honeys on a roll until Michael makes a move of his own on her and everything comes to a halt. Another choreographer replaces her, the kids are let go and Benny drifts back into his bad old ways and into trouble.

But Hthan life oney is not down and the dance goes on. She shares her passion with the talented kids, offering them something more on the streets and in a classic movie tradition that goes back to old MGM musicalsthey decide to put on a show!"

"Pirates of the Carribean Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl combines all the best elements of seafaring films with a touch of the supernatural. Heading the cast is Johnny Depp as Captain Jack Sparrow, a roguish charmer who sails the seas for adventure on his ship, the Black Pearl. Life changes for Jack when his arch-enemy, Captain Barbosa (Geoffrey Rush) steals his ship. Barbosa then attacks the town of Port Royal where he kidnaps Elizabeth Swann (Keira Knightley), the beautiful daughter of the Governor (Jonathan Pryce). Joining Jack in a daring mission to rescue Elizabeth and regain his ship is Will Turner (Orlando Bloom), Elizabeths childhood friend who has always been smitten by her but who is aware of the class differences between them. The two men and Jacks motley crew set out on the HMS Interceptor, the fastest ship in the British fleet and are pursued by the dashing and ambitious Commodore Norrington (Jack Davenport). Norrington, who has sworn to rid the seas of its pirates, is also the man to whom Elizabeth is betrothed But Barbossa and his men are not ordinary pirates. They have been cursed to live forever and on moonlit nights they transform into hideous living skeletons. Only the return of plundered treasure can break the curse..."

"The Pixar/Disney collaboration has brought us four hit movies the Toy Story duo, A Bugs Life and Monsters, Inc. Make that five. And with some very recognisable backdrops and familiar voices, Finding Nemo, brings added pleasure to local audiences.

Nemo (voiced by Alexander Gould) is a colourful clown fish and the only surviving offspring of his overprotective dad, Marlin (Albert Brooks). Marlins fears for his sons safety in the danger-filled deep are realised when Nemo goes missing. Curiosity about a boat he spots from below has him being scooped out of the water and ending up in the aquarium of a Sydney dentist (Bill Hunter) where he meets a friendly group of fellow internees, including Moorish Idol, Gill (Willem Dafoe), the battle-scarred leader.

Meanwhile, panic-stricken Marlin sets out to find his son and is joined by Dory (Ellen DeGeneres), a talkative, cheery blue tang who has the best intentions but, unfortunately, also has a short-term memory problem. Its not all smooth swimming for Marlin and Dory whose encounters include a trio of sharks with distinctly Aussie accents. But these are not your everyday man-eaters; Bruce (Barry Humphries) is a great white, Anchor (Eric Bana) is a hammerhead and Chum (Bruce Spence) is a mako and they are all members of Fish Eaters Anonymous who are trying their darndest not to eat the other underwater residents! Sometimes, unfortunately, they fall off the wagon. In one Pinocchio-like setback, the two would-be rescuers also end up inside a blue whale.

Back in the dentists office, escape plans are in progress for Nemo who has to get out before he is collected by the dentists nasty niece whose evil reputation for murdering marine life precedes her. Outside help comes from a pelican named Nigel (Geoffrey Rush) hey, if sharks can be veggies, a pelican can avoid temptation, too!

Added to the excitement, humour and the wonderfully conceived characters are some of the most beautiful backdrops youll see in an animated feature, which truly comes into its own in the artists dazzling depiction of the Great Barrier Reef. As entertainment for all members of the family, Finding Nemo is a real catch."
