The Smile

My poor face, the frown, the blank stare.
Nothing hurts more except a tear with
no place to go and I've had plenty of those,
too many of those for way too long.

My heart once knew smiles, laughs;
loved every minute of it.
Then the lights went out on my life
and my heart was in the dark.

The one I want, need, breathe for;
she's out of reach, by hand, by heart.
So I'll never know her touch again,
if only she knew.

So dear face, sweet lips
Sorry I can't bring that smile back right now.
Some day, some where, if she returns,
you'll be happy once again.

Till then, the pain, the hurt,
will take up too much of your time.
But I'll not give up the hope, the dreams
until my last breath sends me on
to touch you again in heaven.
