“I Don’t Have To Be Afraid”

I don’t have to be afraid anymore,

I can walk up the stairs and

Into the apartment where

I first met him.

I don’t have to be afraid anymore,

The train that rolls through,

Will never hit me again,

Like it did before.

I don’t have to be afraid anymore,

I don’t have to deal with my dad,

Yelling at me every day and,

Coming home angry.

I don’t have to be afraid anymore,

Of the horrible kids at school,

Taunting and teasing me,

Day after day.

I don’t have to be afraid anymore,

I keep repeating it in my head,

Like I’m trying to convince myself,

It’s a feeling I haven’t felt in a long time.

I don’t have to be afraid anymore,

Because it’s all in the past,

There’s nothing I can do about it,

But look towards the future.
