Puppies & Kittens should be started on Flea Prevention between 2 and 3 months old. Any dog/cat not kept current on Flea Prevention may get fleas. For every month they are not treated, they will lose one point in Coat until they have been treated. Should they go 3 months without being treated, they will lose one point in Health, and continue to lose one point until they have been treated. Any dog/cat carrying fleas can and may spread fleas to any other dog/cat in that kennel/cattery that is not current on flea prevention. Any dog/cat with fleas may also contract tapeworms.
Stool Sample exams are recommended annually, though not required. Should a dog/cat have any type of intestinal parasites, they will lose 1 health point for every month left untreated. Intestinal parasites left untreated for more than 1 year will cause an animal to become quite sick, and immediate treatment must be sought. Should the sick animal not receive treatment, it may die.
Puppies should be given a heartworm test and started on Heartworm Prevention by 5 months old. Heartworm tests should be performed once per year, and a negative test is required in order to obtain heartworm prevention. Should a dog contract heartworms, the treatment is dangerous and expensive, and sometimes even fatal, however, should you not get the treatment, the dog will definitely die. As you can see, it is very important to keep your dog/s current on their heartworm prevention!
Rabies vaccinations must be given each year, to every animal - this is the law. Animals not receiving their Rabies vaccination may contract this fatal disease, plus the owner will receive a fine from the Humane Society (acting as all city councils), and a warning from the game. Other vaccinations, however, while strongly recommended to be given annually, are the decision of the owner. Un-vaccinated animals do have a chance of contracting the diseases, which can be costly to treat, and even fatal in some cases. Puppies not given their first DA2PPCV vaccination at 2 months old will have a very high possibility of contracting Parvovirus, which is almost always fatal in young puppies. Puppies born into a kennel with un-vaccinated dogs have an even higher risk of contracting diseases.
Kittens/Cats must have a negative Feline Leukemia test before receiving the vaccination for the first time. If they receive the vaccination annually thereafter, they will not need another FeLV test. However, should they not receive their annual vaccination on time, they will need to be re-tested before receiving their vaccination.
Recommended Foal Vaccination Schedule*
*Please note, this is simplified for ease of the game. This is not a recommended schedule for real life foals. Please consult a qualified veterinarian for real life vaccination suggestions.
**Rabies is required by the rules at 10 months of age.

Horses should be started on Fly/Pest prevention at 6 months old. For every month a horse does not receive Fly/Pest prevention, they will lose 1 coat point. Should they not receive prevention for 3 months, they will also lose 1 health point for every month thereafter, until they receive Fly/Pest prevention.
Horses should be dewormed every 4 months, starting at 6 months of age. Horses that are not dewormed on schedule will lose 1 health point each month until they receive the next deworming.
Horses should have their feet examined and trimmed every 4 months*, starting at 6 months of age. Horses that do not receive this care on time may become lame. Untreated lameness can result in the horse being taken by the Humane Society or death of the horse, and the owner being charged with neglect.
