Genetic Health Certification Organization


GHCO is a database in which the results of certain genetic health testing can be evaluated and registered in order to help breeders be knowledgeable in choosing healthy animals to breed. At this time, the GHOC evaluates and registers canine information only. Evaluation and registration fees are listed below.

**Note: All times listed on this page are shown in Game Time. For example, 'mininum of two years of age' would translate as 6 months Real Time.


Dog must be a minimum of two years of age to have their Hips and/or Elbows evaluated and certified with a GHCO rating.
Hips or Elbows may receive the following ratings:
V-Highly Dysplastic
IV-Moderately Dysplasctic
III-Showing no immediate signs of Dysplasia, though it cannot be ruled out
II-Dysplasia not likely to occur
I-Excellent hips/elbows, will never become dysplastic

Dogs must be a minimum of twelve months of age to have their Patellas certified with a GHCO rating.
Patellas may receive the following ratings:
IV-Severe luxation in one or both patellas
III-Moderate luxation in one or both patellas
II-Minor luxation in one or both patellas
I-Normal pateallas, no luxation

Dogs must be a minimum twelve months of age to have their Thyroid levels evaluated and certified with a GHCO rating.
Thyroid ratings are as follows:
Abnormal
Normal

Dogs must be a minimum of twelve months of age to receive a GHCO certification number for their eyes.
Dogs my only obtain a GHCO certification number if they are examined by a canine opthomologist and found free of heritable eye defects. Any dog found to have heritable eye defects will not be given GHCO certification.

Dogs must be a minimum of twelve months of age to have their Heart evaluated by a canine cardiologist and the results certified with GHCO.
Heart murmurs may receive the following ratings:
None-Free of congenital cardiac murmurs
I-Very slight murmur, not easily detected
II-Slight murmur, easily detected
III-Moderate mumur, no vibration
IV-Loud murmur, no vibration
V-Loud murmur, with vibration
VI-Loud murmur, with vibration evident even when stethoscope is lifted from thoracic wall

Dogs must be a minimum of 56 days (eight weeks) old to have their hearing evaluated by a canine neurologist or audiologist and the results certified by GHCO. Congenital Deafness results are based on pass/fail. Only bilateral hearing receiving a passing rating. Bilateral or unilateral deafness receives a failing rating.
