Monica's Marriage Part 4
Monica: (with everyone's undivided attention) I have something to tell you all.
Joey: Oh my god youra lesbian!
Mon: what?
Chandler: What?
Rachel: Joey!
Mon: I am not a lesbian! (glares at Joey) Richard and I are separated
Ross and Rachel gasp, Joey spits out his food, and Phoebe drops her plate.
Ro: Oh my god! What happened?
Mon: I don't know. (pause) ever since we got engaged, i've felt hollow, like something is wrong with the situation, and then after the wedding
we moved away, and i've been miserable ever since. Well we've both been miserable.
Phoe: so it wasn't PMS, what you said on saturday was true!
Rach: (confused) what things?
Mon: I told Phoebe about my marital problems.
Rach: What? you told Phoebe instead of me?
Chan: actually Rachel, she told me first. (rachel gasps!)
Ro: you told Chandler? He gives terrible advice!
Chan: actually Ross i can give good advice, it just depends on how the person takes it.
Ro: But you gave me horrible advice!
Chan: well youre an idiot!
Jo: so what happened with Richard?
Mon: well after talking to Chandler, I decided to talk with Richard. You know, a state of the union type talk? Anyways we got into a
huge arguement and he told me in so many words, that he only married me because he didn't wanna lose me.
Phoe: really?
Mon: He bought a house, a new car, and a ring just to make me happy not because he loves me.
Ro: wow.
Jo: That sucks! (walks over and hugs her) are you ok?
Mon: I am actually. I was pretty bad last night, but Chandler helped me out. He really made me feel better.
Ro: you were here last night? (Monica nods)
Rach: With Chandler? (Monica nods) He was helpful
Mon: yea he really was. (hugs him)
Chan: (dumb smirk) finally a woman enjoys a night with the Chan-Chan-man.
Jo: is that why you were in Chandler's bed this morning?
Ro and Phoe: what?
Phoe: oh my god you had sex with Chandler? (mouths to Monica) how was he?
Mon: Ew no! Like i would ever have sex with Chandler!
Chan: I guess my reputation proceeds myself.
Mon: (turns to Chandler) i didn't mean it like that...
Chan: (to everyone) She was feeling depressed, and she didn't want to be alone! (ross looks angry) Nothing happened! We just slept
togther! (off their looks) We fell asleep next to each other. God, is everything sex, sex, sex with you people?
Jo: it is for me! (Chandler nods in agreement)
Phoe: oh. So are you gonna get a divorce?
Mon: I don't know yet, I haven't talked to Richard yet. I won't deal with that for a while.
Jo: whrere are you gonna stay?
Mon: well, can I get my old room back?
Rach: of course honey!
Mon: thanks.
Ro: Um, hello?
Phoe: Hi!
Ro: (rolling his eyes) don't i have a say in this?
Rach: what Ross, you wanna ditch your sister when she needs help?
Ro: of course not!
Chan: then what's your problem?
Ro: i just wanted to....forget it!
Phoe: so you're moving back here?
Mon: yep.
Phoe: that's great! I mean sorry about your marriage and everthing, but you're back!
Jo: yea! and you can cook again! (they both hug her)
Ro: there goes my den. (everyone looks at him) I mean, great to have you back sis!
Mon: It's good to be back. Hey put the plates in the sink!
Chan: already she's back in form. (everyone laughs) Joey you wanna play NHL 98?
Jo: hell yea! (they go to the TV)
Ro: i get winner! (walks with them)
They guys start playing video games as Monica clears away the food
Rach: so are you gonna get a job?
Mon: Chandler?
Chan: (playing PSX) I already cleared my plate!
Mon: not that, tell Rachel and Phoebe about the interviews!
Chan: (confused) why can't you?
Mon: because you set them up for me!
Chan: (sighing) Ross take for over for a sec. (hands the controller to Ross, walks to the counter) I pulled some strings at the fine foods
division, and i got Monica 5 inte-
Jo: score! (dances)
Chan: dammit Ross, i was winning! (to Monica and Rachel) I got her 5 interviews.
Rach: you did?
Chan: (looking at the tv) Pass it to the center! No! (to Rach) yes.
Phoe: which restaurants?
Chan: No, Ross! (joey scores and cheers himself) Ross! Use your head! (to phoebe) what was your question?
Phoe: Which restuarants did you get interviews-
Chan: (cutting her off, quickly rattles off) Hilton, Rainbow Room, Iggy's, Bleeker Cafe and the Golden Palace. Can i go back now?
Mon: yes you can. (chandler rushes back)
Phoe: wow the Rainbow Room?
Rach: wow, those places are way better than any of your jobs!
Mon: I know!
Chandler and Ross cheer as Chandler scores, Joey sulks
Chan: score baby! (Ross and Chandler high-five)
Phoe: boys! (rachel and phoebe giggle)
Mon: hey, believe me being with a man isn't all what its cracked up to be.
Phoe: really?
Mon: well an old one at least.
Rach: Honey, things are gonna be ok.
Mon: i know.
Rach: now why did you tell Chandler instead of me?
Mon: You weren't here on friday, and he was.
Rach: (peeved) I was here saturday and sunday!
Mon: you were having your problems with Ross, and by that time i invested my trust in Chandler.
Phoe: why not me?
Mon: Look, i already told Chandler and i didn't want to tell everyone about my problems until I knew what l was gonna do about them.
Rach: (pouty) you still coulda told me.
Mon: I tried, but you were "preocupied" with Ross. Look can we have this conversation another time? I'm gonna go unpack.
Rach: sure, go ahead. (monica exits, Rachel looks depressed)
Phoe: hey Rach, whats wrong?
Rach: Nothing. I have to use the bathroom.
Time Lapse, 1 hour, Monica re-enters Joey and Chandler's
Jo: Hey Mon, wanna catch a movie?
Mon: actaually i should get Chandler that resume.
Chan: yes you should.
Mon: Does anyone have a typewriter?
Ro: no
Phoe: I have a squiggly pen!
Chan: You can use my laptop if you want.
Mon: can you show me how to use it?
Chan: Yea I didn't wanna see that movie anyways.
Mon: what movie?
Jo: Pheebs, you in?
Phoe: actually i'm gonna get home, i have a long day tommorow.
Rach: (to Monica) Amistad, looks like a snoozefest.
Mon: then why are you going?
Rach: (pointing to Ross who is putting on his jacket) See?
Mon: well (chuckles) enjoy.
Rach: (frowning) yea. Look if you wanna talk later..
Mon: (smiles) that's ok, Chandler's here.
Rach: yes. he is. Lets go.
Chan: seeya
Ro: bye.
Phoe: bye!
Phoebe, Rachel, Ross and Joey exit. Chandler goes to his briefcase and pulls out his laptop.
Chan: ok, you know the standard resume format correct? (turns on laptop)
Mon: refresh my memory please?
Chan: Ok, name, schooling, work history, hobbies, and referals if you have any.
Mon: ok. (sees Chandler's wallpaper) yasmine background?
Chan: Oh ho ho.....that's embarassing, lemmie just delete all incriminating material! (snatches laptop)
Mon: (intrigued) what kind of things are you hiding from me?
Chan: (furiously clicking and deleting) oh my god is that a stain!
Mon: (gets into cleaning position) what? where!
Chan: Ok, Word is up, start typing!
Mon: fine, but i will find out about your computer.....someday...
Chan: i'll be sure to not remember that. (monica starts typing) Oh i told Richard that you would call him a week or so.
Mon: (not looking up while working) who?
Chan: Richard.
Mon: you told Richard that i would call him.
Chan: yea.
Mon: (gets up, slaps the back of his head) why did you do that?
Chan: ow! What the hell was that for?
Mon: why did you tell him that?
Chan: well, seeing as his wife has left him, i'd figured you two would like talk to each other before you sign the divorce papers.
Mon: hey, we are not getting a divorce! (thinks) we might actually.
Chan: see this is some of the things you can talk about! (Monica looks down) you can't postpone things, especially the fate of a marriage.
Mon: (sighing) once again, why do you have to be right?
Chan: I actaully got that line off of a movie on Lifetime! (seeing her smile) Kate Jackson was in it!
Mon: I'll talk to him when i'm ready.
Chan: I wasn't gonna force you to call him now. How's the resume coming?
Mon: i'm not done yet hold your horses!
Chan: (picks up a beer) well i'm holding a budwesier and they have a picture of a horse on it! (off her look) i'm just gonna sit over there...
Time lapse, 30 minutes, Chandler is watching tv as Monica finishes typing.
Mon: done!
Chan: (walks over) Lets see. (reads it) uh huh, uh huh, hmp.
Mon: what?
Chan: nothing. Here just, (makes an adjustment) ok. Good job! Hardly any spelling mistakes. Now lets just save.....and, done!
Mon: you don't need to print it out?
Chan: Yea, when i get to work tommorow. Each restaurant will call you once they get the resume.
Mon: great. (Chandler turns off his computer and puts it back into his briefcase) Chandler?
Chan: yea?
Mon: why are you doing this?
Chan: (confused) cuz i have to take my computer with me to work everyday....
Mon: no no, i meant this, the interviews.
Chan: i dunno, youra good friend in a jam, i'd do it for anyone. That and i really missed you the past few months.
Mon: really, howso?
Chan: I don;t know it's like the gang is incomplete without you. I mean Ross and Rachel's is now kinda like Me and Joey's, not a great place
to hang out. We've all missed your cooking, tonight being a prime example. Um, Rachel and Ross confide in me about the problems
with each other and quite frankly i can't stand it.
Mon: (laughing) really?
Chan: yea, i think i was slowly sliding into your role of the group, well before you came back.
Mon: yea. I missed you too.
Chan: ah, we're all back togther now.
Mon: no no, i mean i missed you too. I missed your jokes and stories, and the way you can cheer me up whenever i feel crappy.
Chan: (dumb grin) really? Cool! (thinks) ya know, Not for nothing, i mean, i'm sorry you marriage is in shambles right now, but i'm glad you're back. (hugs her)
Mon: thanks, for everything. (breaks the hug) I'm gonna go clean next door.
Chan: ok, seeya later. (she smiles and leaves. Chandler sits on a barca lounger and turns on the tv.)
SCENE ROSS, RACHEL AND MONICA'S LATER THAT NIGHT. MONICA IS POLISHING THE COFFEE TABLE AS ROSS AND
RACHEL ENTER KISSING EACH OTHER.
Rach: (breaks the kiss) Hi Monica!
Ro: (loud, trying to get Monica to leave) Hey, Monica! Good to see you!
Mon: hey, just wanted to clean things up a bit. Sorry if i'm interrupting things, i can stay across the hall if you want..
Rach: no, no, please stay, i wanted to talk to you.
Ro: what about me?
Rach: you can wait for me in the bedroom.
Ro: (sighing) fine (walks into their bedroom)
Mon: whats up?
Rach: i was gonna ask you that.
Mon: well, things are looking better. I got my resume to Chandler today.
Rach: what about Richard?
Mon: i don't know about that yet.
Rach: are you gonna divorce him?
Mon: i don't know, i mean we've both been miserable since we got engaged.
Rach: well i think you're doing the right thing by taking some time to think things over.
Mon: yea so do I. Ya know Chandler really helped me out.
Rach: yea. Hey I'm sorry i haven't been avialible to help you out, you know, living in Long Island, i shoulda called more often.
Mon: its ok Rach.
Rach: no, youre my friend and i wasn't there for you
Mon: no Rach it isn't, once I got married, i left the group. Its like i graduated to the real world, and i guess i didn't like it.
Rach: yea. well its great to have you back.
Mon: thats what chandler said. (hugs her) Hey i'll leave you two alone tonight.
Rach: you don't have to.
Mon: well i wanna talk to Chandler so please don't let me interupt your night. (she leaves)
Rach: huh. (walks into her bedroom)
SCENE CHANDLER AND JOEY'S, JOEY IS UP WATCHING TV. MONICA ENTERS
Mon: hey Joe.
Jo: hey Mon, what are you doing here?
Mon: i wanted to talk to Chandler. How was the movie?
Jo: sucked. He just went to bed, he might still be up though.
Mon: ok, see you tommorow Joey.
Jo: night Mon, great to have you back.
Mon: (smiles) thanks. (enters Chandler's room)
Chan: (wakes up) what the?
Mon: hey you up?
Chan: yea, now. What are you doing here?
Mon: Ross and Rachel are at it again, i wanted to give them some privacy. Can i sleep with you tonight?
Chan: i never turn down a beautiful woman! Or any women.
Mon: thanks. (gets into bed, wraps her arm around Chandler)
Chan: this is getting to be a weird relationship, spooning without the sex.
Mon: yea.
Chan: how you holdin up?
Mon: I'm doing really good.
Chan: good. Things can only get better from here. (monica has fallen asleep) Night Mon. (kisses her head)
SCENE ROSS AND RACHEL'S BEDROOM ROSS IS KISSING RACHEL WHO IS NOT GETTING INTO IT.
Rach: (during the kissing) Ross, please, not tonight.
Ro: Oh....sorry. You ok Rach?
Rach: no, its just that, i feel like a bad person.
Ro: what? why?
Rach: I mean Monica has been going through all those problems with Richard and i haven't been there to help her out.
Ro: come on Rach, if she really needed your help she woulda called you.
Rach: but she tried this weekend and i wasn't there for her!
Ro: but she's fine now.
Rach: but I wasn't there for her! (stands up)
Ro: why are you getting upset over this? We're letting her stay here aren't we?
Rach: Ross, thats not the same and you know it. I owe Monica so much ok? I mean when i left my wedding she coulda told me to
piss off and have a nice life, but instead she took me in, and she helped me become the person that i am today. (pacing) If she didn't help
me i'd probably be married to Barry right now! I mean how do you say thank you to the person that changed your life forever?
Ro: doesn't hallmark have a card for that?
Rach: (sighs) i knew you wouldn't understand.
Ro: (hugs her) hey hey hey, you have all the time in the world to make it up to Monica, you just gotta let the moment present itself.
Rach: (breaks the hug) i don't know Ross, its like ever since we moved in togther i've been out of the loop with Monica and Phoebe. I mean
Chandler knows more about them than I do! I hate it!
Ro: (getting mad) well i'm sorry i love so friggin much it (mocking) inconviences your social life. (gets up and walks out of the bedroom)
take to me when you grow up!
Rach: (regretting what she said) oh god Ross, i'm sorry. (Ross slams the door. Rachel goes back to her bedroom, lies down, and silently
weeps herself to sleep)
SCENE CHANDLER AND JOEY'S, ROSS IS SLEEPING ON THE COUCH AS CHANDLER EXITS HIS BEDROOM.
Chan: (seeing the sleeping Ross) what the hell happened here? (goes to take a shower. 10 minutes later Chandler exits the bathroom
and returns to his room) (to the sleeping Monica) Monica?
Mon: (waking up) Hey Chandler.
Chan: i gotta get dressed now, and unless you want a show or something, you should get up.
Mon: yea I shoulda woken up an hour ago. I never sleep this late.
Chan: really?
Mon: (gets up) yea, sleeping with you is very relaxing.
Chan: great, hey can you tell that to the next woman who's gonna date and dump me?
Mon: sure. Have a good day at work. (exits)
Chan: yea, bye. (gets dressed)
Monica exits Chandler's bedroom bumping into Ross who has woken up.
Mon: hey Ross, what are you doing here?
Ro: don't wanna talk about it. Why did you come out of Chandler's bedroom?
Mon: i thought you and Rachel were gonna do stuff and i wanted to give you guys some privacy. I'm gonna cook breakfast now.
(she exits)
Ro: Chandler?
Chan: (through door) yea man?
Ro: can i talk to you for a second?
Chan: lemmie just finish dressing myself.
SCENE ROSS, RACHEL, AND MONICA'S. MONICA IS STARTING TO COOK BREAKFAST WHEN RACHEL COMES OUT OF THE
BATHROOM.
Mon: hey Rach, what happened last night?
Rach: oh Ross and i had a stupid fight. Is he at Chandler and Joey's?
Mon: yea.
Rach: i gotta talk to him.
Mon: ok be back in time for breakfast.
SCENE CHANDLER AND JOEY'S ROSS AND CHANDLER ARE TALKING. RACHEL IS ABOUT TO ENTER BUT STOPS WHEN
SHE HEARS THEM TALKING.
Chan: (comes out of his bedroom dressed) What's up?
Ro: so you slept with my sister the past two nights?
Chan: technically, yea.
Ro: and you're getting her a job?
Chan: (not liking the conversation) i'm getting her an interview, she'll get herself the job. Look Ross what are you getting at?
Ro: I just hope you're not messing with my sister so you can get her on the rebound.
Chan: (shocked) what? Why the hell would i do that?
Ro: cause your chandler! You haven't had a decent relationship ever, and now that Monica's free again you'd probably try to make a
move on her while she's dealing with her marriage problems! (rachel is shocked, chandler looks hurt) You've given her advice, comforted
her when she was sad, you got her a job, and now you're sleeping with her! How long before the two of you get togther?
Chan: ok, first off, that relationship thing is true, but i don't have a thing for Monica! She's married for christs sake! All i've been doing
is being a good friend to her and you say in so many words that i'd take advantage of her? Do you actually think that i would ever
take advantage of a woman, let alone one of my best friends? (Ross is looking remorseful) Oh my god, i don't fucking believe you!
(grabs coat and briefcase, and angrily exits the apartment. Rachel ducks around Chandler and looks at Ross. Ross sees Rachel)
Rach: (disapointed) and to think i was gonna apologize. (shuts the door on Ross).
