| Acting: One of my childhood dreams was to become an actress, however, life circumstances have steered me to become a scientist instead. The acting bug came back to bite me in 2005, since then I have been involving in acting in community theaters and helping out in backstages. Computer Application: Website designing, graphics, and audio and video production. (2001 to Present) Reading: Love to read books, especially love reading Chinese history books, I am fascinated with the Dynasty of 'Three Countries' and prior. Have read San Guo Yen Yi word by word at least 5 times, learned to recite most of the poems in these books by heart. Literature: Love Chinese Literature, am especially fond of Tang's Style Poetry. Started composing Tang's style poem in the Fall of 1999, hope to publish a Collection of Luong Tuy Hoa's Poems in the near future. Aviation: Earned a Private Pilot License (1999) for flying single engine land aircraft. A member of Iowa State University Flying Club, participated in numerous area competitions--knowledge test, precision landing, cross country flying, etc. Movies: Love going to the movies, I watch all kinds of movies--from Walt Disney to science fiction, comedy to thriller, drama to biography, adventure to love story. Astronomy: An active member of Ames Area Amateur Astronomy Association from 1996-1999. Still love it very much, never missed an astronomical event--solar or lunar eclipse, planet formation, meteorite shower, comet fly-by, etc., love backyard star-gazing on a clear night sky. Figure Skating: Passed ISU Freestyle V Test, passed USFSA Adult Silver Test, passed Pre-Bronze Ice-Dance Test, won 7 medals (5 Gold and 2 Silver) in the Ladies' Events at local competitions, participated in numberous ice-shows. An active member of Ames Figure Skating Club (1994-1999), Washington Figure Skating Club (1988-1994), and Maryland Suburban Figure Skating Club (1986-1994). Also enjoy pair-skating. Won't move to a place that has no skating rink within driving distance. Skating is part of my life. I have fallen in love with someone because of skating, and I have also fallen out of love because of skating. For those who had pressured me to choose between skating and them, they knew the answer. Piano: Love to play Beethoven Sonata, Chopin Nocturne and Waltz, Bach Two-Part Invention, and Mozart. I used to practice 3 hours a day, 7 days a week. Now I don't practice as much, but I still enjoy playing the piano occassionally. Dancing: Love both Ballroom Dancing and Contra-Square Dancing, get involved in both types at about the same time (1993). An active member of Iowa State University Ballroom Dancing Club (1994-1999), couldn't survive graduate school without dancing twice a week. Performed numerous charity dances in retirement homes and children's hospitals (2000-2003). Still go dancing regularly, especially love the costume dancing party at Halloween and the annual Strauss Waltz event. Ballet: Love Ballet and Chinese Culture Dance a lot. I practiced vigorously when I was a teenager, performed on stage 5 to 10 times per year. Performed in the Nutcracker's Party Scence sponsored by the Olney Children's Ballet (2000). No longer do ballet now but remain interested in it. Chinese Chess: Got influenced from my father. Learned the game at age 11. Practiced with my father just about every night from age 12 to 17. Still enjoy playing Chinese chess very much. Love to read books recorded from actual tournaments such as the Chinese Chess World Championships. Drawing (watercolor): Started at the age of 8, became serious at age 11. Had drawn over 250 portraits. No longer draw but remain interested in it. Ma Jiang: Got influenced from my parents. First exposed to the game as young as age 7. Love to play Ma Jiang with friends and families very much. Put together an English Translation Version of the game for non-Chinese players (2002). Translated the scoring rules into a mathematical formula (2003). Photography: Got inlfuenced from my ex-boyfriend, who was an amateur photographer. Still love photography very much. Love to take pictures of the Spring flowers and the Fall color. Singing: Love to sing ever since I remember, learned my first song at the age of 2 and a half. Got serious about singing at 11. Love karaoke very much. Had recorded over 90 songs within the last 4 years. Though I sing all kinds of songs, recently I have fallen in love with American classical music, like those in the movie of The Phantom of the Opera. My vocal range is 2.5 octaves, from f to b2 flat. Currently working with a composer to creat songs that fit my style. |
