"On this 3rd planet from this star, Sol, you be god amoung men. They are a flawed race. Rule them with strength my son. That is where your greatness lies."- Jor-El to Kal-El (Clark Kent's Father to Clark Kent)- Smallville (click to head to Smallville the show)
June 23rd 2000 I had my annual 3 month checkup at my Cystic Fibrosis (CF) center. I go to Harper University Hospital in Detroit, Michigan. When I had my pulmonary function test (PFT) my FEV1% or the function % of my lungs was at 34%. This was a concern to my doctor because my PFT's weren't in their low to mid 30's prior to this time. She spoke to me
about lung transplantation and if I wanted that option then it was there for me to choose and to let her know. She wanted me (if I chose to) to get listed before I got real bad and wasn't able to "survive" long enough on the list. The average wait is 2-3 years, but it differs sometimes. I asked her if I could think about it and let her know my next 3 month checkup which was in September 2000. She said that would be fine. Most people with CF harped on me for waiting 3 months and just to give my doctor the "ok" right away.. One must know "who" I am and that I wanted to do a lot of research during that 3 month period and speak with other post DLT patients, and to also hear their stories. I didn't just want to jump the gun right then and there because I'm the type of person that wants to learn information before making a life decision.
September 14th 2000 It was time for my annual 3 month checkup. I explained to my doctor & nurse that I had chosing to have the DLT and gave them the ok to look for transplant centers. My doctor told me that she felt that I had a great chance at getting accepted by Henry Ford Hospital right here in Detroit, MI. This would be so wonderful if I was accepted because I'm only about 1 hour North of Detroit and that would save the cost on a hotel and living expenses etc. I don't have sinus problems and I'm Cepacia negative which is a a huge plus. My doctor said it could be from 1-6 months before I could hear from Henry Ford Hospital. It was basically a waiting game at this period.
