My name is Tammy White. I live in beautiful southwest Virginia. I have been slowly losing my lung function due to Emphysema, a serious lung disease. My mother was sprayed with DDT, while she was pregnant and carrying me. This has led to birth defects and progressed the Emphysema at a much faster rate.

Breathing is something most of us take for granted, I did! But when your lungs don't give you the air you need, your body becomes paralyzed--you can't move. It can be scary if you don't know what to do. That is where Pulmonary Rehabilitation has really helped me in every aspect from exercising, learning about my disease, proper breathing, et. concerning my breathing.

My only chance for survival at the age of 40, is a Double Lung Transplant. This will not be a "cure" as the chance of rejection will always be there. I desperately need the help of my family, friends and my community.

I am on the waiting list for a Double Lung Transplant at UVA, in Charlottesville, VA. It is expected that I may have to wait up to 2 years or longer for my new lungs due to the shortage of organs being donated.

At the time of my transplant, I will have to live on-site for a month. I will have uninsured medical bills along with continuing travel expenses. The next challenge is funding my medical expenses for my transplant, that are not covered by insurance. Immunosuppressants just for the first year can be $2000.00 a month. This amount would reduce after the first year, but I would take this medicine for the rest of my life.

I've established a fund with the National Transplant Assistance Fund to help with my uninsured expenses. The National Transplant Assistance Fund is a non-profit organization that helps transplant patients with fundraising and makes sure that all transplant funds are used for medical expenses ONLY!
All of the donations are tax deductible, whether the donation is monetary or material products or items we can raffle or auction off, or give away as door prizes.
