| PRINCIPALS MESSAGE Dear Parents and Students: We are pleased to introduce the 2005-2006 Lunenburg High School Program of Studies. Lunenburg High Schools faculty and administration are committed to our tradition of providing students with a challenging curriculum and a school environment that is designed to prepare them for future success. This guide contains important information about the course selection process, including credits, course descriptions and graduation requirements. This will help you in selecting your courses for next year. We encourage both parents and students to read the entire guide thoroughly to become familiar with the academic offerings at LHS. We also encourage you to formulate or continue a four year plan to serve as a road map in charting your course selection. This year we have changed our science and social studies curricula to coincide with the Mass. Curriculum Frameworks in those areas. We are pleased to offer new electives in physical education for students in grades 11 & 12. Also, please note that all visual arts classes are now one semester electives. The Lunenburg High School curriculum offers a wide array of courses that will allow students the opportunity to fulfill their individual needs, prepare for post secondary pursuits, and achieve maximum success. In particular, we encourage seniors to take advantage of the STEP program, which stands for Senior Transitional Experience Program. This program enhances our mission of promoting responsible community membership and independent learning, as well as creating opportunities to promote research and expanding learning outside the traditional classroom. In planning for the 2005-2006 school year, students should work closely with their guidance counselors, administrators, and teachers to develop a personal program that leads to the successful accomplishment of their goals. It is our hope that the course selection process will enable you to set challenging personal goals and chart the course that will lead you to success. Best wishes for a great school year! Sincerely, Michael G. Barney Principal Greg Smith Assistant Principal |
