After paying homage to the great Founding Father (of UVA) Thomas
Jefferson, we trekked over to the Franklin Delano Roosevelt Memorial, close
by. As you can see by the display in the picture above, Orian actually
lived through the Great Depression. The image also reveals that they
had digital watches in the 1930s.
This is a candid shot of Orian, taken by surprise. Note the idiotic
look.

Roosevelt's dog, named, uh, Poof, was important enough to be immortalized
in bronze. In fact, a little known fact of the Roosevelt administration
is that the true creator of the New Deal was not the President himself--the
true creator ran around on four legs and ate Puppy Chow off of silver platters...and
has been depicted here.

Orian is a fan of the New Deal.

Just in case, you know, someone thought Roosevelt liked wasteful
violence, bloodshed, destruction, and chaos....
Just to be perfectly clear on that...
After touring the FDR Memorial in reverse chronological order,
I persuaded Orian that it was worth freezing our butts off to walk a couple
blocks down to the Lincoln and Korean War memorials, where taxis were probably
more plentiful, and which I hadn't visited in ages...

A dramatic shot of a soldier in the darkness and the silhouette of the
Lincoln Memorial smoldering on the horizon.

A B.A.R.-toting soldier in winter gear.
These monuments are very photogenic...
Those of us who saw Planet of the Apes will be relieved to note that
this is indeed Abraham Lincoln.
And here it ends...
