Notes on Dazzled

Alonia Everclear, creator and administrator of Seiftis Forever, issued a writing challenge to write a scene where Seifer and Quistis are on a hill together, one of them confessing to having feelings for the other, and the ensuing reactions and emotions--and this had to be done without using some of the most clichéd expressions in the Seiftis fandom, such as "flapping trenchcoat" or "ice queen". I wrote for this challenge, but ended up using one of the clichés("Instructor").

I posted the piece to FF.N anyway, and then realized, from reading the reviews, that nothing was really resolved in it. So I tacked on a second chapter that tied up the loose ends, which is why the story itself and the first chapter originally had the same title; the first chapter was the story itself when I first wrote it. However, later(October 8) I renamed the first chapter "Light" after its central image.

I revised Dazzled on August 25, 2003, for clarity and tone. The part near the end of the first chapter, the paragraph where Quistis reflects on trees, was especially crucial but not clear enough, and was rewritten. The two following paragraphs were revised as well. Seifer's flashback scene in the second chapter was rather extensively revised because the complex narrative voice didn't suit the five-or-so-year-old's point of view.
