"THE POOL"
May, 2004

I gained some confidence after my first contest, but I have to say; I must have been 'blind sighted' by a swollen ego! At the time, I thought this was great. Now, I'm so embarrased by it that I had to force myself to include it here. But this is how we learn, right? I took on a very large project, without the time or skill to tackle it.

CONTEST CHALLENGE
Use the image; "Pool" to create a new and interesting image.

"NEPTUNE AWAKENED"

The idea of bringing Neptune and all the other statues to life was clever, I'll give my self that much credit. I even replaced the light orbs with minature planets (Neptune).
But... THIS is so bad. It's a perfect example of a BAD cut-in. If you're going to cut in other images, smooth the edges!!! As you can see, I didn't know how at the time. And then there's the color problem. When adding images, make sure the lighting and contrast is compatible with the first image. Neptune works, as well as several other subjects with natural skin tones. But YIKES... look at the angel in the pool, as well as the one behind her. If you have an image you want to 'chop' in but the colors or lighting are way off; either adjust it or leave it out. I don't know what I was thinking when I replaced the sky with that awful dark blue.

HOW I SHOULD HAVE CROPPED IT

The project I set for myself, was just too big! We're only give 48 hours to complete and submit our entries, so that needs to be taken into consideration when developing an idea. I should have just cropped it down and focused on Neptune and the hand of the Goddess. Oh well; live and learn.
