My Great Uncle, Col. Robert Welsh, was a career soldier. His family moved to Chippewa Co. Michigan when he was still a young boy. He fought and was wounded or captured in the Philippine Islands in abt. 1909. This information is from the Federal War Registry.

Killed in Action - 5 November 1918 in Meuse-Argonne Battle. Buried at Grave 88 Sec 56 Plot 2 -Argonne American Cemetery. Served overseas June 12, 1918 to death. Appointed 1st Lt. RA-39 US INF. on Aug 17 1899, serving as Capt. RA Apr 6, 1917, Maj. FA RA Jul 31, 1917 ; Col. Aug 1817 CO I 314 (?31st?) FA to death. Based at Camp Lee, Va.
