Chapter Two - "and you are?"

"You get off of her right now!!!" Yahiko roared brandishing his shinai.

 

Hideki, still perched on Kaoru's stomach, turned to observe the young swordsman in training with mild interest. She looked back down to Kaoru who was still pinned to the floor and gestured with her thumb, "Who's the squirt?" she asked nonchalantly.

 

"Student…" Kaoru managed to get out, "and he has a point, would you get off!"

 

Hideki's eyes narrowed slightly, "Oh that's just typical," she sniffed, "No, 'Hey Hideki-chan, how's it hangin'?"

 

"Hardly." Kaoru said dryly from her spot on the floor.

 

"I'm warning you." Yahiko snarled still holding the shinai out in front of him.

 

"Oh how rude of me," Hideki said cheerfully, "I forgot to introduce myself." Getting up from her 'seat' Hideki stood in front of the young boy and flashed a confident smile, "Kusokube Hideki desu," she announced, "I'm Kaoru's cousin."

 

"Older cousin." Kaoru corrected brushing herself off.

 

"Details, details." Hideki said waving her hands. She turned to Yahiko again, bending at the waist to meet his height. "Now, my brave, young, bishounen-to-be, what's your name?" she asked.

 

Yahiko gulped, now that she was standing, he could see that Hideki was dressed in western clothing, fitted black pants, a sleek pair of black boots and a loose white shirt whose top buttons seemingly became undone in the previous tumble. The way she was leaning toward him flashed more than a smile, much more.

 

"I'm…ah…Yahiko," he managed to get out, "Pleased to meet both of you."

 

Kaoru rolled her eyes and whacked him over the head with her hand. "Stop that." she ordered Hideki.

 

"Stop what?"

 

"You know what!"

 

Hideki pretended to fiddle with her collar as she thought about it, "I really don't have any idea what you're going on about Kaoru dear."

 

Kaoru gestured with her fist and Hideki finally dropped the teasing hand. "Oh gods," she squealed grabbing the fisted hand, "You're married?! Get OUT!!!" She dropped Kaoru's hand and placed a thoughtful finger to her bottom lip, "Hm…let me see who'd be desperate enough to marry you? Oh I know! Shinjorou, he always had this thing for you! No? Well, is it that anemic-looking one who always grinned at you like he'd had a major stroke in kenjitsu training? " 

 

Kaoru's face grew redder and redder at each of Hideki's jests, "Hideki…" she warned.

 

"Oh I know now!" Hideki squealed, "Ukyou! The one with the long, loose, hair and the courtesan's eyelashes? Wait a minute…wasn't he gay?"

 

Kaoru finally blew her top, "ENOUGH!!!!!!!!!!!!" she bellowed to high heaven.

 

"Oro?"

Kenshin stood in the doorway, his arms full of groceries, and his face scrunched up in puzzlement. Sano stood next to him with a guarded look in his dark, brown eyes. Kaoru was standing in the middle on the dojo, red in the face from yelling, Yahiko was lying unconscious on the floor and a blue-haired young man they did not know was standing next to them trying to smile away Kaoru's wrath.  "Um, tadaima?"  he said cautiously.

 

"Okaeri Kenshin." Kaoru said tiredly.

 

Satisfied that no-one was in danger, Kenshin stepped inside and regarded the young man with guarded eyes, "Good afternoon sir." he said with his all purpose rurouni smile in place.

 

Hideki almost face-faulted "Sir?" she sighed pulling her hair out of the band that kept it secured at the base of her neck, "I'm a woman!"

 

It was now Sano and Kenshin's turn to lose their balance, "I'm sorry!" Kenshin quickly apologized, "I didn't realize."

 

Hideki sighed again and shook her head, "Yeah, yeah. I guess I'm just too good at this disguise thing for my own good. Kusokube Hideki desu," she said bowing politely.

 

"Himura Kenshin and this is Sagara Sanosuke," he answered bowing in kind, "it's a pleasure to meet you." 

 

Kaoru sighed and began to make the dreaded introductions, "Kenshin, this is my older cousin Hideki, and Hideki, this is my husband Kenshin."

 

"Cousin?"

 

"Husband?"

 

Kaoru rubbed her eyes tiredly, "Hoo boy."
