(This in no way relates to the works of Piers Anthony except for the fact that it is in Xanth, the story is only a fan writing.) Maddy came from Mundania, a normal person like anyone else. She was fourteen at the time, and heard of an interesting way of travel called 'Astral Projection' and after many days of practicing managed to figure out how to use this unique travel. The way it works is that you go into a type of sleep and your astral form can go anywhere you want. Maddy travelled to Xanth in astral form, but the magic of Xanth would not allow her astral form to return to her normal self. Now, half of her remained in Mundania and half of her was in Xanth. They had become two separate Maddys! Her astral form became solid as if she was real in Xanth, and she set off on her journey to find a home in Xanth. She met a girl on the path to the good magician's castle who had the great misfortune of falling asleep constantly without warning! Her name was 'Narcie Lepsy' and was on her way to the good magician to find a way to get rid of this terrible talent! Maddy asked her why she would want to get rid of her talent, and Narcie explained that she wanted so much to stay awake for just one hour. She did not get to finish the rest of her statement on the account that she fell asleep. With the help of Maddy Narcie met a man named 'Insum Nee-ak' (outside the region of madness) who had the talent to keep anyone around him awake. The two left Maddy to go on their way together. Maddy decided to keep Insum's old home, knowing he would not return. And thus her adventure of Xanth ended and she truly found her place. Not too long after Maddy grew lonely and realized she wanted a talent, so she travelled to the good magician's castle, but unfortunately lost her way and ended up instead at the Zombie Master's castle. With help she was told the right direction and given a bag of crumples to add to her supplies. She had with her a small jar of blue-berry jam which would make anyone who ate it sad, a flask of love elixer from a love spring, and a chicken pot pie which she could not eat unless she wanted to lose her courage. Reaching the ocean, she was able to get into a boat and travel to the isles; having a quest to deliver a message from the zombie master to a were-zombie on werewolf isle to tell him that he was to go to sleep for the zombie master had finally gotten his successor to succeed him and the zombies were to go straight away to the planet of zombie's on one of Ida's infinate moons. After travelling Maddy stumbled upon a different isle; spying a tree with golden apples not far from the shore. She could not resist them and rushed forward to snatch some, but unfortunately when she placed one to her mouth she bit into solid gold! Spitting out the vile material she realized these would probably come in handy so she plucked two and placed them in her bag...heading deeper into the isle. Of course how was she to know the Fee inhabited this place? After a threat to mate with one of them she was forced to leave with one whom strongly resembled a winged faun. Of course he was handsom on his human half (for the Fee trace part of their ancestry from the elven race) but she did not want to spend four more years with this creature to marry him and then spend the rest of her life as his mate! It wasn't right, even if she did know what the adult conspiracy was hiding, it should have prevented this! She reluctantly left the isle with him and found werewolf isle, delivering the message and hastily leaving to get to the good magician's castle. The challenges were great, but with the help of the Fee she soon got past them. Once inside the good magician sent her out to go to the ocean once more and meet up with a finned gobliness to take her to her mother whom resided in the region of madness. Maddy was outraged, how could he do this to her when she wanted a talent? On the bright side, she was serving her time...but she wanted an answer! Leaving his castle in a bad mood with her Fee and soon to be mate, she returned to the ocean. But she realized she knew not how to breathe under water! The Fee looked at her and grinned. "My talent is creating an air bubble big enough for two people to stand in." He said, Maddy was surprised at how well the talent fitted the situation. She went into the ocean with the help of the Fee...whom was getting a better and better look in her eye. After much swimming she encountered an angel fish whom looked quite forelorn. "Why are you sad angel fish?" She asked the beautiful fish. The angel fish gave a heavenly sigh and looked at her. "I am burdened with a talent, but I know not who to give it to! I live in the ocean, and know no one who does not already have the ability to use this talent." Maddy cocked her head and asked the angel fish what the talent was. "The talent," the angel fish replied "is the ability to form fins from human legs and vice versa." Maddy looked at her surprised, would this not make the person a mermaid then? A creature of such must have dropped her talent when an accident made her fade out. "I would be glad to take it off your hands." Maddy said, to the angel fish's delight. So now Maddy had her wish! Anxious to try out her new talent, she took her new form and left the air bubble. The fee continued his trekk with her, as he could not leave her on the account that she was his mate. Of course we don't know what else happened to Maddy, she has not sent us a message from Com Pewter's inter net line yet to finish her adventure, so we wait anxiously to find out what else happened!
