The Timeline of the Sailor Moon Universe

The following is the timeline of events in the Sailor Moon universe. My sources for this are the NA dub series and information from Guardians of Order's "The Sailor Moon Role-Playing Game and Resource Book", especially where information from Guardians of Order contradicts the NA dub.

Also included will be events from my Sailor X fanfic series. These will be in a different color and references to all entries will be provided if possible.

The Timeline of Sailor Moon History

  • circa 6 BC - The Silver Millennium begins.

  • circa 992 AD - Queen Beryl launches an attack on the Moon Kingdom. Prince Darien and the Sailors are killed in this battle, along with the princess. - (ref: Ep 39, "The Past Returns")
    • - Queen Serenity imprisons the Shadow Warriors. - (ref: Ep 21, "Jupiter Comes Thundering In")
    • - Queen Serenity uses the Imperium Silver Crystal to repulse the invading Negaverse armies. - (ref: Ep 39, "The Past Returns")
    • - Queen Serenity uses the Imperium Silver Crystal to send Prince Darien and the Scouts into the future, where they will be reborn as humans. She also sends Luna and Artemis into the future to act as the Sailors' advisors. - (ref: Ep 39, "The Past Returns")
    • - Queen Serenity dies. - (ref: Ep 39, "The Past Returns")
    • - The Imperium Silver Crystal shatters into the seven Rainbow Crystals...with one of the seven Shadow Warriors within each crystal.

  • August 4, 1945 - The Sailors save Earth from destruction when they foil an attempt by the villain Scaramanga to tamper with the atomic device used at Hiroshima. - (ref: SX1, "The Manhattan Project")

  • August 5, 1974 - Darien Shields (Tuxedo Mask) is born to unnamed parents.

  • October 29, 1975 - Setsuna Meioh (Sailor Pluto is born to unnamed parents.

  • January 27, 1978 - Haruka Tenoh (Sailor Uranus) is born to unnamed parents.

  • March 6, 1978 - Michiru Kaioh (Sailor Neptune) is born to unnamed parents.

  • April 17, 1978 - Raye Hino (Sailor Mars) is born to unnamed parents.

  • June 30, 1978 - Birth of Sarena Tsukino (Sailor Moon) to Kenji and Ikuko Tsukino.

  • September 10, 1978 - Amy Anderson (Sailor Mercury) is born to unnamed parents.

  • October 22, 1978 - Mina Aino (Sailor Venus) is born to unnamed parents.

  • December 5, 1978 - Lita Kino (Sailor Jupiter) is born to unnamed parents.

  • 1980 - Darien's parents are killed in an auto accident. The accident severely injures Darien and leaves him with amnesia. - (ref: Ep 30, "A Crystal Clear Destiny")

    • - Fiore arrives on Earth and befriends Darien. - (ref: Sailormoon R Movie)

    • - Birth of Sammy Tsukino to Kenji and Ikuko Tsukino. - (ref: Sailormoon R Movie)

    • - Sarena and Darien meet for the first time in the hospital. Sarena gives Darien a rose to commemorate her brother's birth. - (ref: Sailormoon R Movie)

  • January 6, 1981 - Hotaru Tomoe (Sailor Saturn) is born to Professor Souichi and Keiko Tomoe.

  • 1991 - Mina Aino first meets Artemis and begins her career as Sailor V.

  • March, 1992 - The forces of the Negaverse reappear on Earth.

    • Sarena and her friends enter Grade 8 at Crossroads High School.

    • The Sailor V video game is released at the Crown Game Video Arcade.

    • Events from NA Episode #1, "A Moon Star is Born" occur.

    • Events from the original Episode 2 occur. (This episode was not shown in North America.)

      • The Sailors are killed by the Doom and Gloom Girls.
      • Prince Darien dies protecting Sailor Moon.
      • Queen Beryl and the Negaforce are destroyed by the Moon Princess.
      • Princess Sarena dies after drawing huge amounts of energy from the Imperium Silver Crystal. In the English version, Princess Sarena survives.

  • March, 1993 - The Sailors and their friends enter the 8th grade again after they have "lost" a year of their lives.

    • The aliens Ann and Allen arrive on Earth.

    • Events from NA Episode #41, "The Return of Sailor Moon" occur.

    • Events from Bishoujo Senshi Sailormoon R occur.
      • Sailor Moon dies when she draws too much energy from the Imperium Silver Crystal. The strain also shatters the Crystal.
      • The alien Fiore gives Darien the Flower of Life, which he uses to revive the Sailors and restore the Imperium Silver Crystal.

  • February, 1995 - Events from the Bishoujo Senshi Sailormoon SuperS Movie occur.

  • February - March, 1994 - Events from "Ami-chan no Hatsukoi" SuperS Special occur.

  • March - December, 1995 - Events from Sailor Stars (Japanese episodes #167 - #200) occur.

  • March 10, 1999 - Sandra Tsukino-Shields is born to Neo-Queen Serenity and King Endyimon.

  • October, 1999 - The Animanga Corporation is formed. - (ref: SX8, "Order or Chaos")

  • June 4, 2010 - The United Nations Outreach Code is passed. The code gives the UN huge rights which supercede the rights of the nation-states. Hidden in this code is the recognition of the Luna Foundation as a legal entity, and an extension of the Moon Kingdom. - (ref: SX5, "Transfiguration")
  • April 14, 2011 - Sandra Tsukino-Usagi is sent back in time and lives through her mother's first experience as Sailor Moon. - (ref: SX9: "A Moon Princess is Born")
  • April 14 - 18, 2012 - The most destructive earthquake in world history hits the Tokyo area. - (ref: SX5, "Transfiguration" & SX8, "Order or Chaos")
  • May 25, 2012 - Rachel Kyle is released into the custody of Neo-Queen Serenity. - (ref: SX5, "Transfiguration")
  • August 1, 2013 - The Tokyo Intercity Highway is started.
  • February, 2015 - Sailor Pluto proposes the recruiting of a new group of Sailors. Her proposal is accepted.
  • December 12, 2016 - Sailor Uranus is the last of the new Sailors to be recruited.

  • February 10, 2017 - Sailor Mars defeats Hellfire. - (ref: SX2, "Hellfire")
  • March, 2017 - Scaramanga, and the ghosts of Queen Beryl and the four generals are defeated. - (ref: SX3, "Dark Sailor")
    • Neflyte is reincarnated and becomes the ruler of Elysium.
    • Sailor Mercury becomes possessed by a wraith-shard from Queen Beryl.
  • Sailor Mercury kills her father while using her "death dome" power - (ref: SX4, "The Cycle Broken")

  • April, 2017 - The Cybersailors launch their first attack in an attempt to acquire the Orb of Control.

  • Early or Mid 21st Century - An unspecified ecological disaster of global proportions freezes the entire planet.

  • Mid 30th Century - Neo-Queen Serenity uses the Imperium Silver Cryustal to revive Earth.

    • The Nemesis civilization is founded.

  • Mid to Late 30th Century - Rini steals the Imperium Silver Crystal, causing Earth's defenses to weaken. The Negamoon family uses this chance to attack Crystal Tokyo.

    • Events from NA Episode #76, "Legend of the Negamoon" occur.

    • Events from NA Episode #77, "Jealousy's Just Rewards" occur.

    • Events from NA Episode #78, "Birth of Wicked Lady" occur.

    • Rini (as Chibusa) returns to the 20th Century to undergo training.

    • Diana travels back to the 20th Century.

    • Chibusa and Diana return from the 20th Century.

Notes:

  • I will be adding dates as I discover them.

  • I apologize to those sticklers out there who will undoubtedly be offended by either the combined use of the dub names and the names of the Outers, and my inclusion of Sailor X information in the timeline. Let me address both...

    • I used Sailor X material in order to give the viewers a better sense of when the events are supposed to be happening. Now, of course, Sailor X is a fanfic, and none of the dates, (in red color) are to be considered canonical within the Sailor Moon universe.

    • Guardians of Order gathered as much information as they could to compile the timeline. In the case of including birthdays in the timeline, GoO took into consideration that the first season takes place in 1992 (ref: Ep 25, "Too Many Girlfriends"), that Sarena was 14 at that time, and that the Outers were all slightly older than the Inners.

    • On the use of the Outers' names in a list of basically NA info, well, the way I see it, GoO was trying to be complete. They realize what some dubbers don't...that no matter what DiC did to the series, the entire thing, from Episode 1 to 200 is a single story. That, plus they intend to release new material on the rest of the series, starting probably sometime this fall.
