While surfing the Internet, I came across a shrine site dedicated to Chibusa. Upon a bit of exploration, I decided to check out the comments, and I was confronted by the site's flames page.

Normally, a flame page, or a response to a flame would not get my ire, and the webmaster would not land in the Square for responding with as much colorful invective as could be mustered. In this case however, none of that was required or necessary.

Why? Because the "flamer" was a parent who was commenting on the site's content and whether that content was suitable for her kids.

The following is the original text of the note from the concerned parent...

"I wish to imform you that I find the lyrics on your main page by korn unfit for my kids. I do not think you should have bands like that on a site about a show for kids. All I'm doing is asking you to change the song on the main page. Maybe to a more kid friendly song. Thank you."

And the following is the same text, with Chibi-Fallon's remarks included...

"I wish to imform you "imform you" it a parent! that I find the lyrics on your main page by korn This really bugs the crap outa me its KoRN not korn show some respect unfit for my kids. Okay, listen I cut out all the swearing and stuff like that I only have a few if any swear words on my site. I could put in Americana by the Offspring(that's what I'm doing for V 1.5 maybe) uncut too. I do not think you should have bands like that on a site about a show for kids. I'm not even gonna get into this one All I'm doing is asking you to change the song on the main page. Maybe to a more kid friendly song. Thank you. What do want? This is my site. I'm also not a member of hentai free. What has the world come to?"

Now for me to pick this mess apart... My comments will by in italics.

1. "I wish to imform you "imform you" it a parent!"

The webmaster's comment is kinda hard to understand. It seems a word is missing. Perhaps she should learn to write before criticising someone.

First off, you are talking to a parent, and parents aren't always up on what is cool. Also, you ask this parent to show respect for something you obviously like, however, when you stand back and look at the original letter, the parent is not dis-respecting you at all. You however, return the favor by being rude and disrespectful and then you want her to respect you and the things you like? Time for a reality check.

You could do that. It is your site. However, please note that the parent was not asking about that. She had a specific complaint about a specific thing. You have, so far, managed to avoid the issue...something teenagers are good at doing.

Really? Why not? In fact, teenagers don't like to think that they might happen to like something that is for the kiddies, but in this case, Sailor Moon has been "kidicized" by the dubbers, and therefore, the NA dub *IS* much more targeted toward kids than it is for teens. Perhaps the webmaster does not know as much as she thinks she does about the subject of her page.

Uhm...she just told you...she'd like you to change the song on your page.

6. "This is my site. I'm also not a member of hentai free. What has the world come to?"

Not entirely correct. The content may be yours, but the space the site uses belongs to Geocities. When you buy a Net server and pay for a host, then you can say it is your site.

Just because you have a website doesn't mean you can say what you want and piss off whomever you want. Once you learn to read, you should read my article about the subject.

It seems like this person wanted to be annoyed, and she was provided with an excuse to be annoyed. Too bad her flame came at the expense of a parent looking out for her child.

I don't like people who flame for no reason whatsoever. Chibi-Fallon falls into this category.
