"Hey look at that dad." Justin pointed up at the sky. "It's a shooting star." "Go ahead and make a wish. It might come true." "Okay." Justin tightly squeezed his eyes shut. Various wished floated across his brain. "I got it, dad. When will it come true?" Justin opened his eyes. Confusion clouded his expression, as he searched for his father. "Dad where are you?" He whispered. He peered into the dense forest of trees. He took a step in the direction of the dark woods. He was told never to go into them at night because it was very easy to get lost in them with no light to help him see. But her ignored the warning his brain was screaming. His dad was missing and the only place he could be was the woods. There was nothing around but woods. This little clearing was the only place where trees didn't grow. It was the perfect spot for star gazing. No bright lights, no noisy traffic. A cold wind blew, pushing Justin in the direction of the woods. "Come Justin. Join us." It whispered. "Who . . . who's there?" He wildly searched around for the mysterious voice. "Come and you will see." The wind danced and wrapped itself around Justin. Breathing hard, he walked across the clearing. Fisting his hands he forced himself to walk forward. His heart was painfully pounding in his chest, he could hear the blood rushing through his veins. "Justin. No!" His father screamed just as he reached the edge of the woods. "Stay away. Don't come any closer. Run!" "Dad!" Justin ran into the woods. "Where are you?" Tree branches slapped him in the face as he ran head long into the forest. His ears trying to hear his father's voice again. His eyes couldn't adjust to the dense blackness of the night. Then a blazing white light exploded from the trees, blinding him. Using his arms to cover his face, Justin hid behind a giant oak. "There is no need to resist, my friend. We are here to help you. We mean you no harm. Just tell us where your offspring is." A gentle, melodious voice spoke. Justin carefully peeked around the tree. White orbs of light were hovering above his father's prone body. He took a step in his father's direction, but an invisible force held him back. He glanced over his shoulder to see a man holding his shoulders. "Don't move." He commanded in a whisper. "But my dad . . . " A large hand was placed over his mouth. Justin struggled against the man's hold, but to no avail. "Watch and learn, Justin." Justin stopped struggling and looked up at the old man. His red eyes glowed with emptiness. How did he know his name? "Watch Justin." He quietly commanded, extending a long white finger over Justin's shoulder. A scream of pain diverted his attention away from the strange man. His father arched his back, as an invisible force zapped through him. A red light began to build in the center of his forehead. Justin was stunned into silence, the scream inside his head never made it to his lips. A glowing red sphere floated up from his father's forehead and spread to surround his entire body. Within a blink of an eye the red orb zipped up into the black sky, taking away Justin's only family. "Dad?" He screamed in anger and denial. "There is nothing to be done now. You must come with me." The old man's voice drifted away into nothingness and Justin was alone once more. Blazing white lights speed through the night sky, falling from the heavens. Light exploded to his right, then his left. In front of him appeared his fathers body. But Justin knew it was not his father . The glowing corps in front of him did not resemble the man that had been his father. The sky blue eyes were no longer full of laughter and love, but of hatred. His lips were curled into a cruel smile. "Justin, my boy, why not come and give your old man a hug." His arms stretched out toward Justin. "What's wrong with you, dad?" "There's nothing wrong. Why would you say that?" He took a step closer. "What was that red light and what were those white things?" Justin took two steps back. "You were always such a curious boy. Those things you don't need to know right now. Just take my hand and everything will be all right." His hands reached for Justin. "No." Justin turned and ran back to the clearing. "Justin why did you leave me?" "Justin why didn't you save me?" "Justin you could have saved me." "Justin you abandoned me when I needed you most." "Justin, Justin, Justin." "Would you wake up already. I don't think I can take much more of this stench." Mina gave Justin's lifeless body a good shack "You're worse then a hibernating bear. What are you dreaming of, that makes you sleep like the dead?" Mina leaned over the bed to get a closer look at his sleeping face. As hard as she tried she couldn't help from thinking that he looked so angelic in sleep. And maybe, just maybe, in really poor lighting he could look quiet handsome. Her eyes traveled down his face to his lips. They looked soft and full. How would they feel? "You." "What?" Mina jumped back guiltily. "I was dreaming of you." She smiled sleepily up at her. "How dare you dream of me. You have no right to use my image in your dreams." Her face was flushed with embarrassment. What had she been thinking? "Why are you here? This is my day off." Justin turned over on to his side and pushed his head under a pillow. "You promised to help me and I'm here to collect." "Not today. I had a really rough night." His muffled voice barely reached her ears. "Are you whining? Mr. Macho is whining like a baby because he had a rough night. What do you think I had, an adventure in Disneyland? You are not the easiest person to deal with." "Thanks. Now go away." "You will wake up right now and help me look for Amy." Oh, that high and mighty, snippy tone of hers really annoyed him. Who did she think she was, coming into his apartment and ruining his day. "You know what? I'd rather fight a hundred of those mutants from last night then deal with you this morning." He threw the pillow to the foot of the bed. "Aren't we just full of compliments this morning?" "You know I don't have to put up with this. All I have to do is push you out that window and people would thank me for ridding the world of such a nuisance." He sat up in bed and scowled at her. She smiled a dazzling smile. "What?" He was getting annoyed that he was unable to get rid of her. "My, what lovely pjs we have." She tipped her head to the side and continues smiling. Justin looked down to see his Sesame Street boxers peeking out from underneath the blanket. Big bird, along with Cookie Monster stared up at him with smiles as though they agreed with Mina. Scooping up the blanket, he covered himself up to the chin. "Do you mind?" His face turned red. "Pink is a very good color on you." She turned and left the room. "Great. Just great." Justin threw the blanket away. "Now she has something else to hold over my head." He walked into the bathroom and looked in the mirror. Mornings were not his thing. His black hair stuck up at different angles, his blue eyes were puffy little slits, and a dark stubble was growing on his chin. Justin rubbed his hands over his face trying to rub away the sleep and the residue of the familiar nightmare. Looking back into the mirror he flinched at the sight. "This face would scare anyone to death, but only in the morning." Turning on the water in the sink, he slashed cold water on his face. "Jusssss-tinnnnn." A whisper hissed. "For God's sake Mina I'm in the bathroom. It's my apartment, can't I get some privacy here?" He yelled as he glanced at the doorway, only to see that it was empty. "Jussss-tinnnnn." His head turned in the direction of the sound. The mirror showed the same thing it had before, a reflection of his face. "Jussss-tinnnn." A hazy red image filled the mirror. It was a man with Justin's eyes, empty and dead. "Dad." Justin was frozen in place, his legs refused to move and his eyes were glued to the image. A hand reached for Justin. "Give me the power to live again, my son." The figure came closer. "You are the only one who can save me." The cold, clammy hand touched Justin's bare shoulder. Although the hand was ice cold, it was burning Justin's skin. "That's right Justin, come with me. Help me now." The seductive, hypnotic voice seduced Justin. He felt himself being pulled in the direction of the mirror and he was powerless to stop himself. A part of his brain screamed for him to stop and fight the evil that pulled at his soul, but the power of the voice was stronger then his brain. "I need a hero. I'm holding out for a hero until the end of the night. He's gotta be strong , and he's gotta be fast and he's gotta be fresh from the fight." Lyrics and music blared throughout the apartment, shaking the walls and vibrating the floor. "Justin! How do you turn this thing off!" Mina's voice barely audible above the screaming Bonny Tyler. That music knocked Justin out of his trance. He blinked his eyes in order to focus on the mirror. Nothing was there except his image. "Justin, quit admiring yourself in the mirror. I need help here." Mina ran screaming into his bedroom with hands over her ears. "I need a hero. I'm holding out for a hero until the morning light. He's gotta be sure, and it's gotta be soon and he's gotta be larger then life." Justin blinked once more and glanced at Mina. Venus. The word whispered though his brain. He shook his head. "Don't just stand there gawking, do something. I'm losing my hearing." "Too bad you couldn't lose your voice." "What?" He shook his head and smiled. Mina watched Justin walk out into the living room as though the incredible noise didn't bother him. SHe couldn't stop herself from smiling. Those boxers were so ridiculous. What type of person would wear Sesame Street to sleep? "A highly intelligent one?" Justin answered after turning down the volume on the stereo. Mina lifted a brow in doubt. Since she could hear him speak she figured it was safe to stop protecting her ears. Wait a minute, his mouth had not moved. "Did you say something?" She asked just to make sure she wasn't going insane. Justin pretended not to hear her question and continued to play around with the dials on the music set. "Justin?" There was something wrong here. "Nothing is wrong. Just leave it alone." Again she heard his voice loud and clear, yet he hadn't spoken a word. "Oh my God. What's going on here?" Mina backed away from the living room and stumbled into his bedroom. "Mina calm down." Startled to hear his voice so close to her ear, Mina jumped to the left and banged into the bed. Pain radiated up her leg. "Ouch." She sat down on the bed and stared up at Justin. "What are you?" "I'd like to know that myself. I'm sorry I didn't mean to scare you. Most people can't hear me when I talk to them that way. I wonder why you could." He sat down on the bed next to her. Justin tried not to notice Mina shifting away from him. "Don't move to far, you'll fall of the bed." Mina froze. "How did you move so fast?" She examined his profile carefully, trying to detect horns. "No I don't have horns, so stop looking." He stared down at the floor littered with dirty socks and wrinkled shirts. "Sorry." He knew she didn't mean it, she kept on searching his face. Mina narrowed her eyes as she spotted something on his forehead, it was hidden in his hair line. She moved close enough to touch his face. Putting her hand on his forehead, she listed his hair. Justin jerked away from her and managed to slip to the floor. "What are you doing?" He looked up at her. "Nothing. I though I saw something but it was a brownie crumb." Mina sighed and looked down at her hands. "So you're telepathic?" "I guess so." "I can except that. I know a couple that's telepathic. They always know when the other is in trouble." She smiled down at him. "Come on. Get up. We have a missing person to find." She stood and reached down to help him up. He excepted her hand. "So what were you doing with my stereo?" He let her tug on his hand without helping. "I was trying . . ." She grind her teeth. ". . . a news station . . ." She managed to drag him across the floor. ". . . to see what was going on in the world." "I see. Didn't your mother teach you not to play with other people's property?" She was trying her hardest to get him up. He wondered why she didn't give? "Are you get up or what? I'm not about to wash the floor with your behind." Justin stood. She was a stubborn, meddlesome, and annoying human being and it was beyond his comprehension why he found her so interesting. Venus. Death. "Justin are you okay?" She snapped her fingers in front of his face. "Snap out of it. What's wrong with you?" He was staring ar her with a glazed expression. She grabbed him by the shoulders and gave him a hard shake. When that that didn't work she drew her hand back. "Don't even think about it." She scratched her shoulder. "What?" "Let's get going." He let go of her hand slowly, trailing his fingertips over her palm. Mina swallowed. For some unexplainable reason his touch made her mouth dry. "Good." She squeaked out. Justin smiled. Yup, he was getting to her. He looked over his shoulder, she was still standing there starring at him. "Do you mind. I have to change." "Sorry." Her voice was stronger now and her face was beet red. Glorious day, he had made her uncomfortable. Today was going to be a good day. ------------------------------------------------ ------------------------------------------------ ------ Well, this is the end of part three hope you enjoyed it and I'm really sorry that it took me soooo long to write it.
