| Luna, Artemis, and Diana are known as the guardian cats. Their mission is to protect and guide their senshi. Luna and Artemis were sent to Earth by Queen Serenity after the princess, prince, and senshi were killed by Queen Beryl and her army. They were told to only restore the memories of the reborn planetary royalty if evil once again threatened the world. In the manga, all three of the guardian cats also have human forms. In the anime, however, only Luna takes on the form of a human.
Luna is a black cat carrying the mark of the White Moon Kingdom on her forehead. She is the one that restores memories, for the most part, and she is also the "boss" of the senshi. She guides and trains the senshi, particularly Sailor Moon, in fighting the enemy. She developed the Sailor V video game for use in training the senshi. Once she discovered Usagi, she lived with her. Before that, apparently, she just wandered from place to place. Luna is very adept with computers. She is able to discover hidden messages in enemy devices such as the disk that Ami was using at the Crystal Academy. Luna also has a computer database of enemies and the statistics of the senshi and their allies. She can monitor enemy headquarters and also track the whereabouts of the senshi through her computer. Luna also has the ability to sense auras. She can sense both enemy auras and the auras of the senshi and their allies. This ability proved greatly useful to her when she was locating the reborn senshi. Her crescent moon symbol helps her to find her way around. When some mean punk kids put a band-aid over her symbol, she became very disoriented until Usagi found her and removed it. With her symbol covered up, she can't talk or use any of her extra sensory perception. Luna can come across as bossy and even rude but she cares deeply about the senshi (she is quite fond of Ami, probably because Ami actually behaves). She has a lot of stress on her, after all. She tries to keep the senshi in line. Her guidance is essential. Whenever Luna got injured, the senshi were very distraught, knowing that without Luna, they would have a really hard time fighting the enemy and that without her, they were at a disadvantage. They didn't know much about their enemy. They only knew what Luna was willing to tell them. Luna knew that she was the brains behind the senshi so even when she was injured badly, she would stay at her computer to monitor and guide the senshi although she really wanted to be right there with them. Artemis is a white tomcat with a gold crescent moon on his forehead because he is also of the White Moon Kingdom. He is the one that does the dirty work for Luna. For instance, poor Artemis was the one that dragged the Sailor V video game to the Crown Arcade. He takes it all in stride though, never really losing his calm, positive attitude. He was really the first one to locate and guide a senshi. He discovered Sailor V (later revealed as Sailor Venus) and tried to keep her in line. Minako/Sailor V was quite a challenge to keep in line since she was headstrong and very active. She was also almost always chasing after guys, much to his dismay. Diana, a gray kitten with the White Moon Kingdom crescent on her forehead, is the future daughter of Luna and Artemis. She came from the 30th Century with Chibi Usa in Sailor Moon Super S. Diana has a very bubbly personality and she talks a lot. She rarely goes far from Chibi Usa who she almost always calls Small Lady. She prefers to sit atop Chibi Usa's head and just look around. Diana does her best to embarrass Artemis because it amuses her. She goes to great lengths to get him in trouble with Luna. She can't really help it because she's very mischievous and such things amuse her. She tries to get Luna to loosen up because she's so bossy and serious. Diana tries to bring out the humor in everyone and no one can really be mad at her because she's so darn cute! Diana is very protective of Chibi Usa/Small Lady. If Chibi Usa is in trouble and the senshi don't know about it and Diana can't be of any help, she runs to find the senshi to inform them that Chibi Usa needs help. (This is evident in the "Rini's Diary" section of the manga, for instance.) She guides Sailor Chibi Moon and encourages her. She is also one of her best friends. -Mandy *Sailor June Princess* |
