When the RX-78-2 Gundam began being unable to keep up with its Newtype pilot, the Earth Federation decided to build a Mobile Suit designed specifically for Newtype use. When information of the Newtype use Mobile Suit readhed the Principality of Zeon, they resolved to stop shipment of the RX-78NT-1 to the Side Six Colony of Libot from the Federation's Artic Base. The mission failed and the Gundam "Alex" was completed and testing begun at Libot. The Zeon were appraised of the Gundam's new location and sent another team to destroy the Gundam. The final surviving member of the team was successful and the Gundam was never deployed. The Gundam was equiped with an experimental cockpit system which allowed a 360 degree view for the pilot. The Gundam was also given Magnetic Coating to increase maneuverability and prevent joints from overheating and wearing out.
