Wicca is a earth based, nature centered religion based on ancient paganism. Wicca itself is relatively new and reconstructed loosely based on old religion and early witchcraft. It's roots are hard to trace because of persecution, which caused its people and records to be hidden or destroyed.
Most wiccans worship one entity which is both male and female, not just one, the God and Goddess or Lord and Lady. Wiccans do not believe that ours is the only valid religion, nor do we try to convert others to Wicca. It is an open minded path that encompases many traditions.
We are not Satanist. In fact, we don't even believe in Satan or even Hell. We don't run around in black, pointy hats, cloaks, nor ride on broomsticks. Don't believe everything you see in the movies, although some things do come from our culture, they exaggerate a bit.
However, don't take all this with a grain of salt. You cannot just say "boom" now I'm a wiccan. My advice is read, read, read, read, read and then read some more, explore for yourself, and mostly do whatever feels right. If it doesn't feel right, by all means, DON"T DO IT! |
