Impressed by the skill of Kain, Greygar decided to take Kain and make him into a Chaotic commander. Through the use of a magical helmet made by the Demhar priests, Kain was forced to serve the Chaotic army in their campaign to find the DragonEye and kill him. For fourteen years he fought as a slave to the will of the Demhar.

It wasn't until the Battle of Mutawna Plains that Kain was finally set free. Daos Dostov, a soldier of Dragoon, defeated Kain in combat and knocked off the helmet that had controlled him. Daos knew that the only way to stop a Chaotic force was to kill the commander, he was about to do so until Vlad yelled for him to stay his blade. Upon closer inspection Daos saw a human face, once hidden beneath the helmet. Minos identified the face as his old comrade Kain. With the helmet gone, Kain awoke from his nightmare of servitude and joined the Guardians.

Kain is a graduate of the Military Academy of Dragoon. Through his service of the High King he has become a formidable swordsman. He is capable of taking on several opponents at once. Damaged by his experience under the control of the Demhar, he is dedicated to ridding Breala of the Chaotic menace. Like Minos he is devoted to his duty and will gladly give his life to protect Vlad. Before the loss at Chandrille he was engaged to a woman named Toryn who had fled the city before the attack. During his time as a Chaotic she raised their daughter, Tara, who has become a great warrior like her father.
