Welcome

To my Buggy page.

Intro.

This page will be dedicated to my bush buggy. The buggy was built in 1972 and was used for flat track racing until it was damaged in a crash, after which it was probably left to rot in someone’s paddock. It was then bought by the previous owner who repaired the damage, and was going to use it as a paddock bomb, but he couldn’t get the engine to start. That's the condition it was in when I bought it.

This is a front view of the buggy. The lights were the first things I added to it after I bought it. The radiator doesn’t leak even with that hole in the core. Click on the pic for a larger view.

Engine: The buggy is powered by a Triumph Herald engine, which has a capacity of 948cc; it is fitted with twin SU carbs (original equipment), and a mild race cam. All the engine needed was a new head gasket, but I ended up doing a full rebuild, i.e. new rings, bearings, value grind, etc.

Another view of the engine.

Rear Suspension: The rear end is a herald rear end, which an independent swing axle with a transverse leaf spring. This setup works surprisingly well, although ground clearance might be a problem.

Front Suspension: The front end is out of a Ford Prefect. It is a beam axle with a transverse leaf spring.

Frame: The frame is a home made one that consists of two main tubes 18in apart running front to back. The roll cage and everything else in mounted to these tubes. It is a single seater with the seat mounted just in front of the diff, over the tail shaft.
