WelcomeTo my Buggy page. |
|
Intro. This page will be dedicated to my bush buggy. The
buggy was built in 1972 and was used for flat track racing until it was
damaged in a crash, after which it was probably left to rot in someone’s paddock.
It was then bought by the previous owner who repaired the damage, and was
going to use it as a paddock bomb, but he couldn’t get the engine to start.
That's the condition it was in when I bought it. |

This is a front view of the buggy. The lights were the first things I added to it after I bought it. The radiator doesn’t leak even with that hole in the core. Click on the pic for a larger view. |

Engine: The buggy is powered by a Triumph Herald engine, which has a capacity of 948cc; it is fitted with twin SU carbs (original equipment), and a mild race cam. All the engine needed was a new head gasket, but I ended up doing a full rebuild, i.e. new rings, bearings, value grind, etc. |

Rear Suspension: The rear end is a herald rear end, which an independent swing axle with a transverse leaf spring. This setup works surprisingly well, although ground clearance might be a problem. |

|
Front Suspension: The front end is out of a Ford Prefect. It is a beam axle with a transverse leaf spring. |

|
Frame: The frame is a home made one that consists of two main tubes 18in apart running front to back. The roll cage and everything else in mounted to these tubes. It is a single seater with the seat mounted just in front of the diff, over the tail shaft. |
