THE APOSTLE JOHN
speaks about Jesus
(From "The Spiritual Sun" Ch. 13)

***********
O brothersand friends! Could you grasp what Jesus, the Name of all names tells us, what He is, and what kind of activity is in Him, you would have to pass into such a mighty love for Jesus in a moment, the fire of which would be sufficient to enkindle a whole host of suns, so that they would shine a thousand fold brighter in their endlessly distant spaces. As such is the case now - I say to you: Jesus is something so immeasurable - so essentially spiritually great that when this Name is spoken in a living, loving spirit, the whole of infinity vibrates from too great a feeling of respect.
"If you say 'God', you also, certainly, name the Highest Being; but you call It in Its unendingness, since it fills all Infinity, and works from His unending power from eternity to eternity, but with the Name Jesus you describe the perfectly powerful essential centre of God, or more clearly spoken: Jesus is the truly actual, essential God as man, from whom the whole Godhood which fills all infinity, as the Spirit of His unending Might, Power and Energy streams like the rays of the sun. Jesus is, accordingly, the embodiment of the fullness of the Godhead, or: in Jesus dwells the Godhead in Its unending fullness, truly bodily present; therefore the whole divine infinity is stirred when this infinitely holiest, exalted Name is spoken! -
"And this is, at the same time, the unending grace of the Lord, that it has pleased Him to take on the physically-human. But why did He do this? Listen, I will now reveal to you a little mystery! -
"Before the coming down of the Lord, no man could ever speak with the actual Being of God. No one could see the same without thereby losing his life completely, just as it says in Moses: "No one can see God and live!" The Lord has certainly shown Himself personally to holy ones in the ancient church, just as in the church of Melchizedek, and taught his children Himself.  But this personal Lord was actually not directly the Lord Himself, but always only - for the purpose -an angel filled with the Spirit of God.
"Out of such an angel-spirit, the Lord then spoke as if directly the Lord Himself spoke. Yet in such an angel-spirit was never present the perfect fullness of the Spirit of God, but only insofar as it was necessary for the approaching goal.
"You can believe:  in this time, not only the purest angel-spirits see the Godhead otherwise than as you see the sun upon the firmament, and none of the angel-spirits would have dared to imagine the Godhead under any kind of image, just as such was strongly commanded to the Israelite people under Moses, that it should not make for itself a hewed out image, or make for itself any pictorial representation. But now hear: It has pleased the unending Being of God and, certainly at a time when people least expected it, to unite Himself in His whole unending fullness and in this union, to take on the complete human nature!
Now think: God, Whom no created eye had seen, comes as the by most unending love and wisdom filled Jesus into this world!
He, the Infinite, the Eternal, before whose breath eternities fall to dust like light chaff, walked and taught His creatures, His children, not like a Father, but like a brother! But all that would have been too little. He the Almighty allows Himself to be persecuted, imprisoned and killed according to the body by His worthless creatures!
Tell me: can you think of an infinitely greater love, a greater condescension than this one that you know of Jesus?!
Through this incomprehensible deed, he has formed all the things of heaven differently. Even if He lives in His Sun of Grace from which the light streams unceasingly to all the heavens, so is He in spirit of it, the same physical Jesus, just as He walked on earth in all His divine fullness, as a true Father and Brother, as complete Man, present among His children. He gives to all His children all His grace, love and power and guides them Himself personally present, to act with endless power in His order!
Before that there was an infinite chasm between God and the people, but in Jesus the chasm has been almost completely abolished; for He Himself, as you know, has shown this visibly, firstly through His human descent
