Past Friday Five...This was taken from the archives and is the Friday Five from Sept 28, 2001. Enjoy.
1. Laying on your back and facing the ceiling, which side of the bed do you sleep on? The left side
2. Do you have to have covers (blankets and/or sheets) at all costs, no matter the weather? Yes. I feel more comfortable and secure when I'm under my comforter.
3. Sleep nekkid or no? Why? Sometimes. But usually, my PJ bottoms and a tank top. Again...comfy.
4. What's under your bed? Right now, just a few stray items of clothing and magazines and other personal stuff *wink*. I used to have an old bed frame stored under there.
5. If you have pets, do you let them sleep with you? Why or why not? I have a pet, but Du prefers to be in his bowl of water than in my comfy bed. Fish are weird like that. When I had my two boys (cats) they slept in bed with me, or I should say, they walked on me as I slept at night.
Happy Friday!

Friday Friday Friday!
I am so ready for the weekend. Why, you ask. Do you have big plans? Are you going on vacation? Are you going to a festival or hanging out at the beach? NO. I'm going to relax. Of course, I need to do the cleaning and laundry that is normal for my weekends, but I am going to rent a couple of movies or something and RELAX.
I've checked Walking on Sunshine already this morning and the Friday Five isn't up yet. Seems she's gotten some stressful news and probably isn't in the mood for Friday Five. If she doesn't have it later, I'll look it up and post it on my blog.
Have a great weekend everyone.

It's Wednesday! The week is half over, thank goodness.
I'm not sure about the rest of you, but short work weeks seem longer than regular work weeks. So much to do and less time to do it in. On top of that I'll be out of the office working at one of the Federal Buildings in town. So, I'll never get all of my work done! :-)
Hope everyone had a good weekend and hope that your week this week goes by rather quickly.

So, about my weekend...
Thursday evening my cousin arrived with her 3 1/2 month old baby. He is adorable, if I do say so myself. I had pretty much prepared myself for a long ass 10 hour drive with a crying baby. Expect the worst...you know?
It took us just about 9 hours. That was including the stops to feed the baby and one stop to feed US. Kalen couldn't have been a better traveller. He was sooooo calm and only got fussy once, but calmed right down when Laura hopped in the back and played with him.
My visit was good as well. Spent most of my time with my mother. I missed spending time with my cousins, due in part to my mother's selfishness with my time and in part to my need to sleep at night (I'm an early bird).
Saturday I visited with my great-aunt who is healthy as can be with the exception of losing her sight a little while back. I had lunch with my cousin Laura and with my other cousin's husband (Michelle was at a shower). I had dinner with my Aunt and her husband. It was a really nice restaurant with really good food. The next day (Sunday) mom and I drove to the beach and basically had a relaxing day.
This morning we got up, had breakfast with the crew then drove out to the airport. My flight was uneventful and short. And now...I'm HOME! Yay!!!
Laura and her hubby will be back in a little over a week to spend the night and then will head back to Ohio.
Hopefully Kalen will be as peaceful and sweet for his mommy and daddy as he was for us on our trip down.

First of all it's Sunday, not Friday AND I'm stealing this from Sheila (Walking on Sunshine). Get over it, I'm on vacation and don't feel like thinking. ;-)
1. What's the last vivid dream that you remember having?
I dreamt that someone was chasing me with a knife. I don't know who or why, but it really woke me up feeling anxious.
2. Do you have any recurring dreams? I don't think so. Not that I can remember right now.
3. What's the scariest nightmare you've ever had? I dreamt that Hannibal Lecther was looking for me (this was right after Silence of the Lambs came out) and I ran and ran from him, I finally hid behind a closet door and he was just about to find me when I woke up from the dream. When I woke up, Corey wasn't in the bed next to me and it took me about 5 mins to summon up the courage to get out of bed to look for him. I was freaking thinking that Hannibal got him in real life. He was peacefully sleeping in front of the TV (until I woke him up crying!!!)
4. Have you ever written your dreams down or considered it? Why or why not? No, I'm lazy.
5. Have you ever had a lucid dream? What did you do in it? Yes, but nothing I can think of specifically right now.
Vacation is going just fine. Relaxing and nice. The weather is sunny and breezy. Hope everyone is having a nice time.

A few days ago I listed things that I liked (I forgot to add Rockapella by the way). So today, since I seem to be in a pissy mood, I thought I'd tell you stuff I don't like or just bugs me a little. :-)
** Bigotry
** Slow drivers in the left lane
** Mean drunks
** Avocado/Guacamole
** Unnecessary lies
** People who don't respond to a "hello"
** People who can't accept you for you (try to change you or make you like them)
** Pity
** When that last sliver of soap breaks in two and you can't use it anymore
** People who stuff an entire Oreo in their mouth without breaking it open first
** Mustard
** People who can't agree to disagree
** When people ask other people how I am doing instead of asking me directly
** Parents who don't discipline their children
** Parents who beat (not spank...but beat) their children
** Tomatoes
** People who purposely fart loudly and smell the whole room up (everyone farts...it just bugs me when they make a display of it)
** Homophobes
** Heterosexuals who think everyone is straight
** Homosexuals who think everyone is gay

My cousin Laura arrives today with her infant son Kalen.
She is braving the interstates alone alllll the way from Ohio. A trip that normally would take 8 hours, she's estimating 10 with the baby. I can't wait to see her and meet my newest cousin. Laura and I see each other rarely and even less when we were growing up, but each and every time we see each other we have a good time. Although I do have a memory of a feud with her when the boy I liked, liked HER more and she was only visiting! LOL. What was his name? Jerry I think.
Tomorrow we head for Florida. We will be surrounded by parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins. I head back home Monday morning and will look forward to flying home. Ahhh, a one and a half hour flight is so much nicer than a long car ride (regardless of who I'm driving with...:-)).
So, don't expect blogs from me for a few days, but do be pleasantly surprised if I get off my vacationing duff and fill you in on my time off.

Q100 Atlanta is the best radio station! :-)
This group of folks keeps me laughing all morning. The Bert Show is one of the funniest morning shows I've heard and the station is pretty good about playing a variety of music...a little excess in the Pink area, but that's ok, she's cool. :-)
If you want to catch them, go to http://www.q100atlanta.com or click on the Q100 icon to the right of my blog page. You can listen to them on line. Drop them a note, let them know I told you about them. I won't win any prizes or anything, but it'll still be pretty cool. :-)
Have a great day! Keep laughing.

I always admired my grandpa. Soon after he died, my mother found this letter that he had written. I've shared it often and am happy to share it with you guys.
THE CONTENTED MAN
A man is contented:
When he looks at the universe in its fullest dimension of beauty and splendor with a sense or realization of how insignificant he really is in the overall majestic, divine plan, and yet has the full measure of faith, courage and determination.
When he always remembers the loyalty and allegiance he owes to his country and never fails in his responsibility to his family. When he judges his fellow-men bytheir character and not the pigmentation of their skin or their ethical background; recognizing that all are children of God, imbued with inalienable rights of life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.
When he recognizes the importance of the value of things material in their true perspective and does not envy his fellow-men. When he is pleased to be known for what he is and not what he has.
When he makes friends and cherishes their friendship, and just as importantly when he is able to be his
own friend. When he can be happy in the multitude or in solitude and altruistic and lofty amid the joys, tragedies and the many vicissitudes of life. When he appears tallest by stooping to help a child or hearkens to the widows' tears, and the pain of the old and destitute.
When in the midst of sorrow, or best with trial and tribulations, he finds solace in the psalms, extols and hallows the name of God, and counts his manifold blessings.
When he finds that life and love are beautiful gifts of God that give him hope, and when he prays he is glad to be alive and yet he has no fear of death because he knows that his soul is immortal.
When he crusades to right the wrong with all his might and with a song in his heart. When his word is his bond and his handshake a binding contract.

WHERE IN THE WORLD IS CARMEN SANDIEGO?
Years ago I had the audio tape of WITWICS and I can't find it. I would love a copy of a tape or cd (preferably the cd). If anyone knows where I can get one, please let me know.
I've checked out Rockapella, PBS, CDNOW, AMAZON, and Ebay's websites but I can't find the soundtrack for sale anywhere.
If there is anyone out there who can help, click on my name below and drop me an email with the info. Your help is greatly appreciated!!

This is shamelessly lifted from Walking on Sunshine who shamelessly lifted it from iCan.com and their 2002 Power Tour coverage.
1. What was your first car?
My first car was an old Ford, but I had it for a very short time. The first car I bought myself was an 86 Chevy Sprint. 3 cylinders, blue, cute little thing.
2. What is your dream car?
Any convertible. I'm not picky.
3. What is your favorite gas station food for road trips?
Lemon drops and gum. If I want chocolate, then a 100 Grand bar.
4. What's your music choice while driving along the open road?
Billy Joel (any album) and lately Beastie Boys (Paul's Boutique)
5. What was your most memorable road trip?
It may sound like I'm ripping off Sheila's answer, but it's true. The road trip to Mio was the top of my list.
Four completely separate personalities on a road trip to canoe and eat and gossip. We had a wonderful time...a few feuds, a mishap or two (canoe tipping over for Sheila and Nina and me almost being decapitated by a tree), but all in all, we had a really nice time. Very memorable, very much still in my mind as if it just happened yesterday.
Everyone should be so lucky to have memories like this.

Judge me if you will...
I get some strange looks when I tell people some of the things I love...or really like a lot. Here are a few for now:
**Richard Gere, I don't care if he is 150 years old.
**Buttercup, the bitchiest of all the Powerpuff Girls. And she is a brunette and green is her favorite color...just like me.
**Hot Chocolate with saltine crackers.
**Cheezits, is eating an entire box in one sitting just the worst thing you can do for your body? Who cares.
**Smiley faces, although I admit, sometimes even they get on MY nerves.
**Harrison Ford, another old fogey, but I'd never kick him out of my house.
**Fight Club, the movie rocked.
**Fajitas from Rio Bravo, Chevy's or Chi Chis...even better with a Grande Margarita.
**Edward Norton, nerdy but irresistible.
**Cheerios, the only worthwhile cereal.
**Ben and Jerry's Chocolate Fudge Brownie Ice Cream...enough said, man.
**American President, not the actual president, the cheesy, chick-flicky movie that they show on TNT every week.
**Shawshank Redemption, I like this movie even more than Fight Club.
**Wyatt Earple Purple.
**The smell of lemons.
**Coffee. Lots of milk/cream.
That, of course, is only a partial list.

Ahh, Friday. It's about time.
As you have read before, I was so happy because Leah found Larry (Karaoke) again, and even though he was soooo far away we were looking forward to seeing him every Friday!
Well, bad news. Larry emailed me (I refuse to lose him AGAIN!) and he said that the management told him yesterday that he is not welcomed there anymore. They refused to give him any explanation, but told him they didn't like "your kind" at Buffaloes. I'm still not sure what they meant by that. He's a nice guy, gets the people excited, gets people singing and participating. By doing that, he gets them to also buy food and drinks and tip their waitstaff.
So, I'm not sure why they wouldn't want him. Meanwhile, he works at 4 other locations on various nights and they all love him.
If only I could drag my butt into work after being out all night on a weeknight. If I could, I'd go see him another night of the week.
So, tonight...boredom is likely. If anyone in Metro Atlanta needs a new Karaoke host on Friday nights...let me know, I'll make sure Larry gets the message. He's an awesome host and a really good guy.
Have a great Friday. Please check out "Walking on Sunshine" for her Friday Five.

I love hot chocolate.
I have no real topic today. This of course makes me think that i shouldn't be blogging. But I just know you guys would just PANIC if you didn't hear from me every day. ;-) Ok, I'm kidding. I know you rarely check this blog, and that's fine. Don't worry about my little feelings.
Seriously though, I do love hot chocolate. I just finished a large Dunkin' Donuts hot chocolate. Not sure what I'll drink once it starts getting reallllly hot here, maybe just chocolate milk? Or orange juice. Water is probably what I should switch to, but do I really want that? Any suggestions are greatly appreciated. *smile*
Ok, I've wasted enough of your time with my ramblings. :-) Have a lovely sun-shiny day.

Spiderman, Spiderman, he can do more than a spider can...
Guess where I just came from...YEP! Spiderman. Great flick. Sweet love story, creepy bad guy, and a cute boy in a skin tight suit. Damn. What more could you ask for? Oh yeah...Star Wars. Well for me, Spidey was a cool change and a fun movie. Predictable? Sure...but who cares? ;-)
On a differnt note...I was asked how hot Panama (Canal Zone) got in the summer. Well, first of all, Panama has two season: Rainy Season and Dry Season. Rainy happens during the spring/summer months. I MISS those rain storms. There is nothing like a hard rain storm to relax me. I just haven't been in one that compares to that in a jungle area. Now, dry season. That's when it got hot. Honestly though, it has been years since I've been "home". Last time was 11 years ago. The year before I got married. I'm hoping to go back within the next 2-3 years. I miss it. I miss the beauty and I miss my family.
And...if you think Spiderman is cool...you should see the HUGE spiders you find in the tropics!!

The weather is a strange phenomenon.
Yesterday morning when I got up the temperature was in the mid 70s. This morning: 57 degrees!
Luckily for me, I LOVE cooler weather. I think this is part of the reason why I loved San Fran so much. It was cool there all year 'round. Usually it was sunshiny, but breezy and cool. Most evenings you'd want a sweatshirt.
It was not unusual to see folks in shorts, with a sweatshirt on. Birkenstocks...and socks. The Bay Area is the place where you learn how to dress in layers!!! I loved it.
I promise you this, if I can ever afford to move back out there, I'm there. But affording to move out there includes being able to fly east to visit friends and family often...so the affordability isn't likely.
So, Atlanta, here I am. Short sleeves one day, jacket the next...
It could be better. But I also know, it could be a whole lot worse!!!

Monday Morning. Usually not a happy day for most. I'm just waiting for 6:45pm to come around.
I have a dinner date with my oldest friend, Johanna, today. She and I grew up in Panama Canal Zone and have known each other since we were both 4 years old. We somehow both ended up living in Atlanta, after each of us living on different coasts of the US for much of our lives.
Johanna's favorite story of us is how we met. My family moved in across the street from hers and I offered her a piece of Juicy Fruit gum. The rest, as they say, is history. We were inseparable. We were in kindergarten together and because we were so close, our teacher asked that we not be in any of the higher grades together (Los Rios Elementary had one kindergarten class, but 1st through 6th grade, each had two classes). That didn't matter to us. We were still best friends.
I moved away when I was twelve. I cried and cried when I left my home. My friends. My family. Although much of my family is still there, my childhood friends, are spread out all over the U.S.
I lose my identity at times. Although I was born in Panama (My brother was born in the Canal Zone, but I was born in Panama), I have dual citizenship. I don't look Panamanian, but I am. I am also American. My spanish, to my dismay is dismal. I understand it almost fluently, but speaking it is a whole other story. I use it when I can. Luckily for me many of my neighbors are Mexican. A different kind of spanish, but still, it's spanish.
Ok, so dinner with Johanna. I'm very excited about it. 27 years of friendship. Amazing. We lead such different lives, but we are able to talk as if we were back home at the playground near the jungle at the end of our street. I hope all of you have friendships like this that you can look back on and reminisce about.

I didn't really expect to update my blog today, but I'm home and thought...you all need to know what I'm doing this weekend. *kidding*
Actually, Leah and I went out last night. We found Larry. Larry hosts karaoke, but left his usual Friday night spot about two weeks ago. He's now about 15 miles further away, but we went. Leah and I talked about our Friday nights...it's fun to have the girl time together. Don't get me wrong, I love hanging out with all of the gang...those I see everyday and those I only see occasionally, but a girl needs her girl bonding time.
This is why my time with Sheila was so important and fun. Sure, she got to meet my friends, and we had a blast with them, but catching up and chatting was important.
I'm lucky. I'm one of these women that can have all kinds of friends. I have girl friends, both straight and gay. Guy friends, both straight and gay (although, here in Atlanta...more gay than straight...*wink*). Married friends, single friends. Friends in their 20s and Friends in their 50s. I love them all. And love spending time with each of them for different reasons.
I wonder if it's because I was kind of an only child. Yes, I have a brother, but we have such a gap in age that each of us were really raised almost as only children. I love to have people around me. I love making friends laugh, even at my own expense. Mostly I love watching my friends. I learn from them. I learn that there are things about them that I wish I could copy and things about them that I *know* I'll never want...but, I love them all. Good, bad, all of it.
These are my Saturday ramblings. Time to finish that last load of laundry and have a late lunch.

I send "Friday" messages to a list of folks and have done this for many Fridays.
This Friday was Mother's day based. I received a reply from a friend of mine, who not only lost her Mother within the past year, but also lost her teenage son a few years ago.
**************************************************
I would like to add to all who has a mother in "this" world, cherish each and day, take to heart the words and advice she gives, and remember she has probably done it all herself but will always forgive you and be there for you.
As for all the "mothers" first time or multiple, remember it was that "little one" who gave you that title...life can be brutal and short at times so value with quality and quantify all the time you
can spend with your child.
**************************************************
Gina, I love you, thanks for sharing this message with everyone and allowing me to post it in my blog.

I asked my closest friends to list three things that describe me. This can be a dangerous thing, because I know my friends, and they can be brutally honest.
Thankfully, most of the replies were kind ones (Did I mention that although they're honest, they are tactful too?).
When I asked the question I wondered if I would be surprised or disappointed with any of the replies. I wasn't disappointed, but I was surprised in one or two cases.
I won't share with the Web World who said what. I wouldn't want to embarrass anyone (myself being the exception). But I will tell you some of the things that were said. Whether they were complimentary or not (I took them ALL as compliments).
Trustworthy (this and honest...three folks) and Fiercely Loyal (loyal came from two folks) were probably the ones I'm most proud of. I am loyal to a fault at times, but I'd rather be that way than any other way.
Friend (two votes..:-)), Cute, Caring, Loving, Sincere, Accommodating, Intelligent, Compassionate (also two folks), fun. These make me smile and get misty-eyed, and on a lighter note, makes me wonder why I'm single! :-)
Of course, Skittish and Opinionated were on that list as well...which may answer previous question. There were many other comments, one in particular which I hold dear to my heart, but will not share, since it made the person who said it, and me, both cry a little and share I love yous. That person knows who it
is...Love ya.
I said when I started this blog, less than a week ago, that I would fill you in on who I am, and I hope you consider this is a fair start.
I love to smile, and luckily for me that smile is coming back. It was lost behind fakey smiles and a grey fog for a long, long time. Thanks to my friends, ex-husband, family, and Doc W (*laughing* my close buds thank HIM too!!) that smile is back and it's real.
Have a great weekend. Please check out Walking on Sunshine for her Friday Five.
Oh...the three things that I use to describe me: Lucky, Smiling and Improving every day.

My attitude has definitely improved. People are noticing that my negative attitude is slowly, but surely, becoming a positive one.
I used to be the one everyone went to when they were down. But these last couple of years I've shut a lot of folks out and became fairly negative. I feel as though I am becoming my old self again and I'm so happy about it. I'm still not looking at EVERY glass as "half full", but I feel I have more and more reason to do so. I have good friends. Mostly, I have several small groups of friends. Small enough that it like they're each a separate family. This means many things: Fights. Love. Friendship. Disagreements. Difference in lifestyles. But, because we have that "adulthood" thing working for us, most of the time these disagreements last a short time before someone realizes that life is too short to argue over stupid things and that truly, we are all allowed our own opinions even if we believe the other person is wrong.
On that note, my true life brother, Paul, seems to be growing up as well. We are 9 years apart in age and never seemed to have much in common, but I think we've reached a point in our lives where we know that that really is ok.
I'm glad I'm growing up. It's about time.

The Varsity. I'm told that everyone who lives in Atlanta should experience it. After living here for almost three years, my time was yesterday.
I can't remember the last time I giggled so much. We walked in to this greasy diner. Behind the long counter were several order takers yelling at customers "what'll you have?!". It was hilarious. I bounced up to the counter and said, "this is my first time to the Varsity AND it's my bday!! I want a hot dog with ketchup and an order of onion rings and a chocolate milk shake". I was asked what my name was and then asked her name. She smiled really big. Her name, which I thought was Bernice, was Benicer. Little did I know that Benicer was sneaky. She got together a group of about 6 workers who all sang...VERY off key...Happy Birthday to me as I clapped and giggled!!!
Rodney (my Varsity bday host), Leah and Bobby and I sat down to our meal. I noticed some children with a cool Varsity paper hat on. Leah went to my rescue. Not only did she buy me a hat, but got Benicer to sign it (as did the rest of my bday gang buds!).
I had a great time. We all probably ate for less than $15 but it was fun and I enjoyed myself.
Happy birthday to me. :-) 31 is fun, but acting like I'm 11 is even better.

I figured I should start my new blog today. Today is my 31st birthday and I vowed
several months ago to make this one extra special.
Thanks to many of my friends, it has been just that. Sheila came to visit me and we had a ball. My friends here in Georgia made sure to
be a part of my bday by spending time with me and sending emails and making sure
I was happy. My family has also played a big part, including my brother who called
me last week to wish me an early happy birthday...a first for him.
As time goes by I'll fill you in on who I am and how I spend my time. For now, I'm
