| Friedhelm Vogel CEO Covance Laboratories GmbH Kesselfeld 29 48163 M�nster Germany Dear Friedhelm Vogel, I am writing to express my deep shock at the findings of a five months investigation by the British Union for the Abolition of Vivisection (BUAV) at Covance animal research laboratories in M�nster. I was appalled by what the BUAV's evidence of animal suffering revealed but extremely grateful to them for highlighting the distributing reality of primate experimentation. I believe that the BUAV's evidence shows that your company has been systematically breaching the EU and German law regarding the housing and treatment of laboratory primates. I was particulary appalled by the obvious mistreatment of the monkeys, with particular staff swearing, shouting shaking and threatening animals, even forcing them to "dance" on radio music for their own amusement. This was a sickening sight and in stark contrast to the impression Covance gives on its website about the conduct of its staff. In the first instance, I urge you to take swift and decisive action against those culpable members of staff seen on the BUAV video, by dismissing them immediately for their gross misconduct.
