| This is a magnet that is floating. When a supercondutor is lowered to it's superconducting temperature a magnet will float on it. This is due to the messner effect (which states a superconductor likes its electons in the way they are and will mimic its own magnetic field to keep those electons in that order). This superconductor is a ceramic alloy made at Argonne and contains Yttrium, copper, and oxygen. And it is brought to its superconducting temperature using liquid nitrogen |
