| Giovanni laid in the hospital bed, relieved that he was still alive. A white bandage was wrapped snugly around his leg, a small spot of dried blood showing where his wound was. Giovanni had originally thought that the piece of wood in his leg had been small, but the doctors had discovered otherwise. The piece had actually been a few inches long. Giovanni picked up his cell phone, then called one of the head scientists. He waited patiently for him to answer, hoping that he wasnt too busy with one of his experiments. After quite a few rings, the scientists finally answered the phone. Yes sir, what is it? the scientist asked. I had an interesting thought cross my mind. Id like you to come to my room so that we can discuss it in person, Giovanni said quietly. The scientist concurred, then Giovanni hung up his phone. The scientist showed up at the door to his room a few minutes later and knocked, wearing his white lab coat. Come in, Giovanni said. The scientist stepped inside and closed the door behind him, then stood next to Giovannis bed. What would you like to discuss with me? After thinking for a bit, I had an ingenious idea, Giovanni said, almost at a whisper. Well, what is this idea you had? How long have you been working on the Pokemon cloning experiments? Quite a while sir, why? How successful have they been? Giovanni asked, his face lighting up a bit. The scientist then smiled. Extremely successful, he boasted proudly. Excellent, Giovanni replied. Have you had any luck with locating the elusive Mew? The scientist began to see what Giovanni was thinking. Sadly, no. However, weve been working on a device that tracks Pokemon through their psychic powers. Its been quite successful. Its been tested at long distances using an Alakazam, and works perfectly. How far? Approximately ten miles. Good, but youll need to improve that number. In order to locate and successfully track Mew, youll need a tracker that can cover the entire island. The scientist sighed, realizing that Giovanni was right. They had already been trying to capture Mew for years, and the closest they had ever come was a split-second glance. A thought entered the scientists mind right then. If they could successfully track Mew, would it be possible for them to capture it? It was definitely a Pokemon, but legends told of hidden powers possessed by Mew stronger than any other Pokemon ever known. The scientist dismissed the thought, then looked down at Giovanni again. Ill begin working on improving the tracker immediately. As you wish, Giovanni replied. You may leave. As the scientist walked out, Giovanni smiled in satisfaction. If the scientist would be able to improve the tracker, their search for Mew would be greatly aided. All they needed now was a Pokemon that would be strong enough to battle Mew so that they could capture it, assuming that the Mew could actually be captured in a Pokeball . . . A small pink figure darted through the air happily, zooming this way and that as it played with a small Butterfree that was trying to tag it. It eventually darted in a tree, hiding silently as the Butterfree looked around in confusion. The Butterfree called out, then the small pink Pokemon rushed out of the tree and tackled it in midair, giggling as it did so. The Butterfree, caught off guard by the sneak attack, fell to the ground and looked up at the Mew, which was giggling quietly. She got up and shook herself off, then flew into the air again. <Note: Communication between Pokemon will be written in English, rather than the usual Pokemon babbling. Mew, however, can be an exception since its psychic. > How do you always find such good places to hide? the Butterfree asked. Im a natural. What can I say? the mew responded, smiling. Oh, get off it, Crystal. The only reason you outrun me and hide is because youre so fast. Crystal looked somewhat amused at the comment. Youre just jealous, Annie. Annie flapped her wings a bit quicker in slight annoyance, but it was the truth. She was jealous of Crystal. Shed even had dreams about being a Mew before, but she wasnt going to admit it. Annie then turned as she heard her name called. Aw man, dont tell me thats your mom already. Annie sighed, then nodded. I guess we lost track of time. Ill seeya tomorrow! Annie waved, then swept down, flying close to the ground as she sped away. Crystal sighed, then yawned and floated lazily to a tree. She sat down on a large branch, then yawned again. She had lots of friends, but they couldnt always come out to play. She was much older than all of them, but her mentality was the same for the most part. She easily made friends with her carefree, bubbly personality. At the same time, it had also earned her a few enemies from the less friendly Pokemon. Crystal sighed, then laid back on the branch. She slowly began to doze off, allowing sleep to overtake her slowly. She had been playing most of the day, so she was quite tired. A protective psychic bubble formed around her as she drifted off to sleep, impenetrable by anything. Suddenly Crystal sat upright and the bubble popped. Her psychic senses were warning her of something, though she wasnt sure what. Her psychic powers were well developed, but she hadnt found the need to use them very often. She could summon them at any moment, though it wasnt always necessary. Crystal closer her eyes, then took a deep breath and closed her eyes, relaxing as the protective bubble formed around her. This time, however, she wasnt sleeping. She was immediately swept away in a vision of some sort, then found herself standing in a large facility of some sort. Crystal looked around in amazement at the complexity of the technology that was in the room. It was far more advanced than anything shed ever seen. She walked around slowly, staring at all the technology in bewilderment. As she walked around one of the machines, a large glass tube caught her attention. Something was inside of it. Crystal walked closer to the tube, then gasped loudly when she realized what was in the tube. She was looking at herself! She continued to walk closer to the tube, then stopped mere inches from the glass. Crystal peered through the glass of the tube in shocked amazement. As she stared at the Mew which was imprisoned within the tube, a realization dawned on her. She wasnt actually looking at herself. She was looking at an exact replica. The only difference was the fur color. Crystals fun was a bright pink color, whereas the Mew inside of the tube was light purple. Crystal was still shocked as she stepped back away from the tube. She inspected the tube carefully, looking for any hints as to where this Mew came from, or anything else about it. She looked up, then spotted a label near the top of the glass tube. It only read one thing. Joey . . . <Two months later. > Giovanni smiled in satisfaction is he finished reviewing and signing the large pile of papers that had stacked up on his desk. The repairs on his office had just been finished, and his leg had long since healed. His phone rang unexpectedly, causing Giovanni to wonder who was calling. What is it? Giovanni asked, seeing the number of one of his scientists on the Caller ID. Sir, weve completed work on the tracker. The moment we activated it, it picked up a strong psychic signal on the other side of Pokemon Island. Really? Giovanni asked. How strong? Stronger than anything weve ever seen, the scientist responded. Giovanni immediately sat upright at that bit of information. Thats it! Thats the Mew! Get out there and find it, now! Yes, sir! the scientist replied happily. Giovanni hung up the phone, then smiled. He cackled as the though of capturing Mew crossed him mind. They were closer to capturing it than they had ever been before . . . The head scientist of Team Rocket, known simply as Blade, assembled his team of scientist for a briefing on their mission. As he explained the mission goal, the others listened intently, giving him their undivided attention. As Blade finished the briefing, the scientist began applauding wildly. So, any questions? Blade asked after the applause had died down. One Brave scientist raised his hand, then stood up when Blade nodded in hi direction. I have an idea. Well, by all means, voice your opinion, Blade responded. Well, I started to think while you were speaking, and a brilliant idea came to mind. Were trying to create a more-powerful clone of the Mew, correct? Correct, Blade responded. Proceed. Well, perhaps we dont need to actually capture the Mew in order to clone it. Keep going, Blade said, sounding quite a bit more interested. The other scientists had their attention fixed on the other as well. In order to clone the Mew, all we need is its DNA. The only thing we need is a tissue or blood sample. The scientist stood motionless after he spoke, allowing time for the idea to sink in. After a few moments, Blade smiled. He stepped into the group of scientists, then approached the one who was standing. The scientist didnt say a thing, waiting for Blades reaction. Blade then smacked the scientist on the back, laughing. Thats the best idea Ive heard in a long time! Youre a genius! So, how do you propose we take a sample of the Mews DNA? Its actually rather simple, if you think about it. All we need in a few tranquilizer darts and a syringe. Blade smiled again, then nodded. I see your point. He then laughed at his pun, along with the others. As the laughing died down, Blade cleared his throat. So, we have a plan now. Begin preparations immediately. Weve already got everything we need, so well begin the search by the end of the week. As the scientists filed out of the room, Blade walked to the phone and picked it up. He dialed Giovannis number, then said only one thing when Giovanni answered. Sir, a foolproof plan has been created. Nothing will stand in the way of our cloning experiment . . . Crystal sat up as her psychic powers warned her again. It had been the third time today, and she kept having visions of the same facility and that cloned Mew. She sighed, then shook her head in attempt to clear it a bit. It was to no avail, however. Something was seriously wrong somewhere, and her powers werent going to leave her alone until she found out what. Crystal floated up off the branch she had been sleeping on, then began flying through the air in he protective bubble, letting her psychic powers guide her. She wasnt sure where she was going, but she got the feeling she would find out soon enough. Unfortunately for her, the facility wasnt what her psychic powers were guiding her to. Crystal didnt know it yet, but Joey didnt exist. She was completely unaware of the men that were searching for her, requiring her DNA to create a clone. She continued to follow her psychic powers, hoping that they would shed some light on the reason for her reoccurring vision. Meanwhile, Blade and a few others were following the tracker, which was locked in on Crystals psychic powers. They had been walked an entire day following the tracker. The tracker beeped, indicating that they were getting steadily closer to the Mew. They didnt realize that Crystal was heading straight for them until a few seconds later, when the tracker indicated the direction in which the Mew was traveling. The tracker could only give a specific direction when they were within a mile of the target. A number popped up, indicating the exact distance, and Blade was surprised to find that it was dwindling rapidly. Get your tranquilizers ready, the Mews heading straight for us! Blade yelled. The people with Blade loaded their tranquilizer guns, being careful not to accidentally stab themselves or anyone else with the highly effective darts. Blade checked the tracker again, then was shocked when he looked up and saw Crystal flying toward them. All of the men crouched down in their camouflaged clothing, then took aim. They had been instructed to hold their fire until they were guaranteed a hit. Crystal continued to fly, still not sure where she was going. As she flew low over the trees, she began to look around, wondering where this place was that she was supposed to be looking for. She landed in a tree to rest, then looked around. Her powers were still warning her, but this time it was something different. By the time the tranquilizer hit her, it was already too late . . . Blade grinned as he watched the Mew fall from the tree. It landed in the soft grass at the base of the tree, completely unconscious. Blade and the others cautiously ran over to where the Mew was lying, then Blade knelt down beside its small body. Its still alive, he announced. The tranquilizer worked perfectly. One of the men with Blade produced a syringe from his pack, then handed it to blade. Blade began feeling along the Mews leg, searching for a vein. When he found one, he checked the needle, then inserted it into the Mews leg. He pulled back the plunger, filling the syringe with blood. When the syringe was full, he pulled out the needle. A spot of blood appeared, which blade immediately wiped with a pad. Blade held the tube triumphantly in his hand, then placed it in a small container to keep it safe. He produced a second tube of clear fluid, then attached the needle to it. He inserted the needle in the same spot, injecting a counter to the tranquilizer which had been injected previously. Blade pulled the needle out again, then handed it back to the person that had given it to him. He pulled out a small bottle of potion, then sprayed it on the small bleeding spot. It began healing immediately as the potion took effect. Blade put the bottle back away, then sighed. With the mission accomplished, all they had to do was take the sample of blood back to the headquarters, analyze it, then begin the cloning process. Blade took one last look at the Mew, then the group walked away quickly, leaving the Mew before it woke back up. If the cloning was successful, they would never need the Mew again . . . Crystal woke up slowly, her vision blurred. She shook her head in an attempt to clear it, but it didnt help any. She tried to remember what had happened, but her memory was distorted as well. She took a deep breath and began concentrating, but she couldnt control her psychic powers well enough in her current situation. She was too weak. Crystal tried to stand, but her legs gave out a few moments later. She took another deep breath to clear her head, then decided to wait for the dizziness to pass before she tried anything. Her vision was clearing now, so she was definitely improving. After a few more minutes, Crystal decided to try and stand again. She sat up, took a deep breath, then got onto her feet. Her knees wobbled quite a bit, but she managed to remain standing. After a few moments, she realized that her leg was rather sore for some reason. She reached down and checked it with her paw, but nothing was wrong. Eventually Crystal began to walk slowly, knowing that she should move before any aggressive Pokemon found her in such a weakened state. When her condition improved even more, she managed to fly far enough to land on a large tree branch high above the ground. Crystal breathed deeply, then began concentrating her psychic powers. Her first attempt was unsuccessful, so she took another deep breath and tried again. The bubble formed around her, which was a good sign. She continued to relax, then a blurred vision of the facility came to her. As her psychic powers returned to normal, it became clearer and clearer. This time, the vision was slightly different. Crystal saw people in the room with her, milling about and taking notes, looking at the tube in which the Mew clone named Joey was contained. One of the scientists stood out from the others for some reason. Crystal didnt recognize him, but something told her that he was the person who had created Joey. Crystal opened her eyes, and the bubble surrounding her faded away. She still couldnt remember why she had woken up in the grass. She remembered flying for a little while, landing in a tree, then everything going black. She examined her leg again, which was still a bit sore and stiff, but could still find nothing wrong with it. Perhaps she had just slept on it wrong. Crystal yawned, then decided that she should find her way home. At least, find the area that she called home. All of Pokemon Island was her home, but she liked to stay in a specific area where all of her friends were. She flew up out of the tree, then soared through the air quickly . . . Blade took the sample of blood, then placed it in a machine. He pressed a button, then an image appeared on the monitor in front of him. Blade inspected the image, then smiled. The sample of blood was flawless. No infections, no disease, not even a malformed blood cell. Blade switched off the machine and pulled out the sample, then cackled quietly. Contained in the small tube was the only thing needed to create the clone. Not just a clone, but an exact copy of the strongest Pokemon ever . . . |
