Hulkamaniacs dismantle Hornets in record breaking night.

BENDIGO (AP).

The Hulkamaniacs have sent a clear message to their division 2 rivals by destroying the Hornets in their latest division 2 encounter on Wednesday night, to the tune of 68 points.

Not content with just a solid performance approaching the finals, the Hulkamaniacs displayed from the outset they meant business, with Beau hitting two consecutive 3-point field goals to start the bleeding, and the Hulkamaniacs would not look back from there - on their way to a record breaking result.

It had already been a miserable season for the Hornets, being well out of finals contention yet again, and on the wrong end of several lop-sided results, but none quite this severe - not even an early season encounter with the Hulkamaniacs, which ended in a 38 point defeat.

Conventional basketball methods were thrown out the window as the Hulkamaniacs let loose with fast break after fast break throughout the night.  In fact, there was little resemblence of structure in the game, except for the odd ocassion where the Hornets struggled against the Hulkamaniacs defense.

Beau was the Hulkamaniacs best throughout the first 20 minutes, accumulating 20 of the Hulkamaniacs 30 for the half.  Other contributors were Phil C with 8 and Adam with 2.  Without doubt, the fast paced style of play was suiting the Hulkamaniacs, with the trend set to continue after the break.

Following a couple of weeks on the sidelines, Adam connected on a trey early in the second half as the Hulkamaniacs continued the onslaught, with players almost lining up to be part of the offensive action.

Beau and Phil C continued their outstanding nights on the offensive end, continually making their way to the basket with little hesitation.  The second half proved to be a more even contribution, however, with Murray and Adam building on their individual scoring tally's.

As impressive as their offense was, the Hulkamaniacs kept it equally as tidy on the defensive end - only allowing the Hornets a bare minimum of offensive opportunities.

Simply, the Hulkamaniacs dominated - in arguably the most one-sided game in their 87 match history.  Among the records to tumble on the night were the all-time individual scoring record, most field goals in a game, largest winning margin all-time and most points in a single half.  See below for a full run down of some other records and milestones passed tonight.

The final score was 84 to 16.

Leading scorers for the Hulkamaniacs were Beau with 36, Phil C with 24, Adam 12, Murray 9 and Luke 3.

The win secures top place on the division standings for the Hulkamaniacs (11-1-1), with just 1 game remaining in the regular season - against the equally powerful Mustangs (10-3) next week in what could prove to be a grand final preview.

The Hulkamaniacs last encounter with the Mustangs was a tight affair, with the Hulkamaniacs only gaining control late in the contest, scoring a 14 point win.

As impressive as the Hulkamaniacs were tonight, it will be a different story next week against quality opposition in the Mustangs.  The outcome will be a better reflection on exactly where the Hulkamaniacs sit this season.

MVP Standings: Phil C (65), Beau (52), Murray (37.5), Ross (31), Luke (30.5), Jayson (19.5), Adam (24.5), Phil S (12).
