Hulkamaniacs tie franchise record with scrappy win against Mustangs.

BENDIGO (AP).

It may not have been pretty, but the Hulkamaniacs have tied their franchise record of 6 consecutive victories, by defeating the Mustangs on Wednesday night, 52-38.

In a night of "milestones", Adam became just the second Hulkamaniacs player to surpass the 600-point mark, whilst Beau and Phil C each played their 50th all-time Hulkamaniacs game.

Playing with a full line-up for the second consecutive game, the Hulkamaniacs were facing the Mustangs for the first time and the uncertainty of what to except from their opponents was always going to be a factor.

A shaky start was had by both sides, with the Mustangs getting on the board first and were looking the more cohesive unit.  As usual, the Hulkamaniacs took a few minutes to get rolling, but eventually got on the board through Beau at the free throw line.  Adam followed with his first 3-point field goal of the night, with Murray and Phil S also getting on the board early - restoring the lead for the Hulkamaniacs.

Phil S continued his impressive first half with another field goal soon after, whilst the other Phil - Phil C, started to get involved offensively - never a good sign for any Hulkamaniacs opponent.

Though the game was still tight throughout the first half, the Hulkamaniacs were holding onto a slender lead, even without a huge input from the teams two leading scorers - Phil C and Beau - to that point.

But it was Adam, playing just his third game back following suspension, who was the game breaker on this night.  With the Hulkamaniacs enjoying a slight lead, Adam broke the game open with a series of three 3-point field goals within 5 minutes.  And if that wasn't enough, Phil C continued the long-range onslaught with two 3-point bombs of his own just before the half.  This barrage of "trey's" helped the Hulkamaniacs to a 19-point lead at half time.

On a hot and balmy night at the Schweppes Centre, fatigue became a factor in the second half.  But with the game seemingly in their keeping, and a 2 and a half month lay-off beckoning, you can understand the Hulkamaniacs slipping into second gear.

Even with the Mustangs having the better of the second half (by only 6 points), the game was already beyond doubt at the half - and only a major meltdown would prevent the Hulkamaniacs from their 6th straight win for the season, equalling their franchise record streak.

In an otherwise ugly second half of play, Phil C again stepped up his offensive contribution, ensuring the Hulkamaniacs held sway and took the win comfortably, heading into the summer break with a solid victory, and winning streak in-tact.

The final score was 52-38.

Leading scorers for the Hulkamaniacs were Phil C with 16, Adam 14, Murray 5, Phil S 4 and Beau 3.

The Hulkamaniacs remain atop the division 2 standings, for the third consecutive week with a win/loss of 6-1.  The remaining teams in the top 4 are the Throwbacks, Mustangs and Dwarfz - all with 4 wins and 3 losses.

When we return to action (February 2, 2005), the Hulkamaniacs (6-1) take on the Throwbacks (4-3) at 7:40pm on court 5.

MVP Standings: Phil C (36), Beau (29), Jayson (20), Luke (17), Ross (15), Murray (19), Adam (14), Phil S (4).
