BENDIGO (AP). The Hulkamaniacs continued their blistering start to the 2004/05 season on Wednesday night, with their fifth consecutive win (their fifth win from 6 games), in a 38 point trouncing over traditional rivals, the Hornets. The win gives the Hulkamaniacs their equal franchise best start to the season, with 5 wins and 1 loss from the 6 games so far, equalling the same achievement from last season (2004, which included 2 forfeits). Playing with their full regular season roster for the first time this season, the Hulkamaniacs assumed control early in the game with Luke, Phil C and Beau getting on the board early. However, the Hornets were surprisingly clingy in the first half, as they found ways to hit some fairly difficult shots to keep themselves in the contest. The contest remained a tight one throughout the first half, with the Hornets keeping the scores low with pesky defense, restricting the usually potent offense of the Hulkamaniacs. With Beau and Phil C enjoying good games (combining for 16 of their sides 21 points), the Hulkamaniacs were off to a solid start - and it was seemingly only a matter of time before the dam wall burst, and the Hulkamaniacs offensive machine kicked into full gear. Holding just a 6-point lead at the half, a further total of 13 points were added to the half-time lead of the Hulkamaniacs due to a late start and two "out of uniform" penalties against the Hornets. So by the start of the second half, the slender lead of 6 points had grown to an intimidating total of 19 points. And at the start of the second half, the dam wall finally burst. Simply stated, the Hulkamaniacs exploded - running the floor and scoring with ease. A Hornets defense that was a thorn in the Hulkamaniacs side in the first half, was more like a dead weed in the second, with the Hulkamaniacs running all over their opposition. Phil C and Beau continued their impressive nights out, whilst Jayson, Murray and Adam also got into the action on the offensive end, whilst the Hornets struggled to keep pace. Beau, in-particular, got hot offensively - leading the way throughout the second half, and helping the Hulkamaniacs to a possible record breaking night. In fact, almost everything Beau did in the second half turned to gold, seemingly driving to the basket at will, building a huge personal tally, and as the game progressed, a new individual scoring record looked likely. Finding every which way to score, Beau and Phil C emerged as a formidable double-act over the course of the night, and a combination that could pose problems for any team in the division, not just the Hornets. By games end, Beau and Phil C combined for 40 points - leading the Hulkamaniacs to their second highest second half scoring tally of all-time. On an individual note, in a fantastic all-round match, Beau amassed 26 points - a new Hulkamaniacs scoring record. The final score saw a convincing victory for the Hulkamaniacs, 74-36.Leading scorers for the Hulkamaniacs were Beau with 26, Phil C 14, Jayson 9, Murray 5, Adam 4 and Luke 3 points. Next match sees the Hulkamaniacs (5-1) come up against the Mustangs (4-2) at 7:40pm on court 5. MVP Standings: Phil C, Beau (28), Jayson (20), Luke (17), Ross (15), Murray (14), Adam (6), Phil S (3). - Luke Last weeks Hulkamaniacs Poll results: Q: When will the Hulkamaniacs winning streak end? A: Can't see it ending anytime soon! (3 votes), vs Mustangs (1 vote), vs Throwbacks (1 vote). | ||
