BENDIGO (AP). In
a strong showing last Wednesday night, the Hulkamaniacs not only halted
a 3-game losing streak to the Camels, but also made it four consecutive
wins for the season - launching the team to the top of the division 2
standings after 5 rounds. And in a sparkling return to vintage form after a quiet game last week, Phil C single-handedly led the Hulkamaniacs from the front, hitting on 17 points for the night including 14 points all in the first half. Despite a tentative start by both sides, the first half belonged to the Hulkamaniacs. But
as mentioned, it was Phil C who led the way and got things rolling,
with 14 of the Hulkamaniacs first 15 points in the first half, with
Luke providing some support with 5 points. Adam and Jay also
contributed offensively in the first half, which saw the Hulkamaniacs
establish a lead they would not relinquish. By
the half, on the back of Phil C's hot shooting coupled with a late
start and uniform penalty against the Camels, the Hulkamaniacs had a
healthy 16 point lead, 32-16. Having
dropped their past 3 games against the Camels, including a heart
breaking elimination final loss last season, the Hulkamaniacs were
determined not to let another game slip to their rivals. Despite
enjoying a 16 point half-time lead, the Hulkamaniacs knew the Camels
were capable of scoring and at times, scoring very quickly. And as expected, at the start of the second half, the Camels surged with consecutive baskets to bridge the gap to almost single digits - and suddenly it was a danger period for the Hulkamaniacs, despite controlling the match to that point. However, the lead of the Hulkamaniacs was never seriously threatened, as Beau and Jayson got involved offensively to keep the margin above 10 points and putting the game in safe keeping for their team. Phil C added to his scoring tally, continuing his solid night on both ends of the court, whilst Murray and Adam added further to the Hulkamaniacs total, ensuring another impressive victory was the end result. After absorbing an initial, yet not unexpected, Camels surge at the start of the second half, the half ended as a low scoring scrap between two teams seemingly headed in different directions, for this season at least. The final score was 45-28. Leading scorers for the Hulkamaniacs were Phil C with 17 points (an outstanding all-round game), whilst the rest of the scoring load was shared between Jayson, Beau, Adam and Luke who had 5 points each, with Murray also getting on the board with 1 point. Next time out, the Hulkamaniacs will try and make it 5 wins in a row for the season, taking on the Hornets at 9:20pm on court 1. The Hulkamaniacs carry a 5-game winning streak against the Hornets into the match, so the expectations by many will be for a comfortable Hulkamaniacs victory. However, the Hornets have shown some improvement this season, and may be more of a test than many division 2 "insiders" may think. Should be a great game, see you there. MVP Standings: Phil C (24), Jayson (18), Beau (18), Luke (16), Ross (15), Murray (11), Adam (4), Phil S (3). - Luke Last weeks Hulkamaniacs Poll results: Q: What team stands between the Hulkamaniacs and a possible first ever championship?
